Re: What's better Pinnacle Edition or Adobe Premiere

I have a lot of experience with Premiere, and recently installed Edition DV 4.5 for testing purposes, after reading about it in PC Magazine, mainly because it won PC Magazine editor's choice (beating Premiere).

The interface is a matter of taste. I think it looks like a toy (serious toy, though), and it is ever so slow and heavy. Every time you import a movie to the project, the program analyzes it, and if you're dealing with big DV files, it can take forever.

Despite its completely different interface, you still work with projects and timeline, and apply transitions in almost the same way. Apart from that, I don't think there is anything Edition can do that Premiere can't. Premiere has far better 3rd party support, and decent Windows interface, one we've become accustomed to.

To conclude, it's going to be hard for me, as a premiere user, to move to Edition DV. I will have to give it a lot of time, until I get comfortable with it.

I suggest you read the article in PC Magazine (there's a link to it in Pinnacle site), plus, you can find many other references in other places.

MediaStudio

If you are going to compare Premiere 6.5 to some other SW it might be Ulead's MediaStudio Pro 6.5.
Pinnacle's product is quite pooor! one reason is mentioned already. The other is the fact that it occasionally "hangs" (and that is not something rare).
Recently I tried to make use of it for MicroMV (up to this time, it is the only SW that claimes to support MicroMV besides the MovieShaker which is simply a toy product that comes with the cam.) Finally I gave up with Pinnacle. I can't understand how it comes that you put such a lausy product on the market and still make money??
