Beware of copying Lord of the Rings!!!!(2DVD version)
January 4 2003 at 12:03 AM
gary (no login)
I just tried to copy the (2dvd) extended version of The Lord of the Rings (pal)using dvd2svcd and it has totally stuffed up my program, has "uncracked" the CCE 2.66 I was using, made DVD2SVCD unusable, and to top it all made my Power DVD XP also unusable, with a message popping up each time I put a DVD disc into the DVD-rom saying something about copyright and region not being right and that the disc can only be played in a standalone dvd player ((((.Which of course is wrong!!
The first of the 2 dvds I was able to copy - no problem, but the second ..... well now you know.
Any ideas on how to deal with this situation??

I did the extended Version a Couple of weeks ago without a Problem at all, it was a NTSC Version But I did not have a problem with it at all, smartripper Decrypted it no problem and After it has been successfully decrypted then there shouldn"t be a Problem, it"s not like they are useing a Different form of Copy protection or Putting a Virus on the DVD..If you are useing the Newest release of DVD2SVCD then that Might be your Problem Cuz I have heard that a lot of poeple have been having strange problems since installing the latest version..Try ripping and encodeing the DVD Manually, Meaning Try not useing one of them "All in One" solutions Like DVD2SVCD , you get better controll over the outcome if you do it Manually anyways....

Amazing!!! I tried to copy the second DVD, and the results were horrific. An email was sent to all the contacts in my address book, telling them that they're idiots, later on, my hard disk was formatted, my coffee macine broke, and my wife left me.
I think I will give up this "DVD backup" for good.

Yeah!! It's all true....
Also forgot to mention that my hamster ran away since I can't copy dvds any longer and Gollum is definitely after me (or is it my neighbour - can't tell the difference)!!
Well thank God for system restore!!
Happy Copying

You might try the DVD2SVCD forus at http://www.doom9.net
and see if anyone there is reporting similar problems.
The Doom9 forums are a mixed bag. They can be helpful,
but many have complained of rude treatment there. I
would suggest doing a search first and only then posting
if you are sure your problem has not been discussed.
If it's a subject that's already been discussed, you
will get some rude responses telling you to do a search
to find your answer.
I got it rite after a few tries...rip with smartripper...it removes the coppywright... try to encode with ulead or video vagas...it it does not work first convert to avi and try it from there!!!
I must admit that there's anything wrong about this second disk.
I made a copy of the first one that plays fine in my standalone player and WinDVD and the second one only plays in PC. In standalone player it plays the inicial menu and after selectind "to continue" it gives me a disk error.
The method I used for both disks was the same: DVDDecrypter and InstantCopy, with only some audio streams ripped.
I'm talking about DVD to DVD copy.
http://www.doom9.net has a forum dedicated to copying programs like Instant Copy. I suggest you go there and do a search on your specific problem in copying Lord Of The Rigns with Instant Copy before you post. The people in the forums there are REALLY anal and will totally flip out if you dare post a question that has already been answered. If you decide you need to post, I want to warn you that they have a new policy that you can not post until 5 days after you join. This is to prevent you from - horrors! - posting a question that has already been answered. See what I mean about them being anal. The forums are real hit and miss. I got some terrific advice in one on a problem I was having with DVD2SVCD and without the advice, I would never have been able to use the program. I also recently posted a question about a technical problem and didn't get a single response. A lot of the people in the forums act like they belong to some secret club that you're not part of. You might be able to get some help there because they do have some real heavy duty technical people there on the forums, but I want to warn you that you're also just as likely to get nothing. I think it's worth a try. If no one knows about your problem, you're no worse off and if you get help, so much the better.
Thanks Jason.
I posted already in Doom9 forum and I got, at least, one suggestion... that didn't work.
They have some guides, it's true, regardind the use of InstantCopy. I used them (at least I supose so) but each case is a case.
I posted here because I saw the postings of others that have trobles concerning the same DVD disc.
Sorry that didn't help, but like I said, Doom9's forums are real hit and miss. I despise the arrogance so many there have, but sometimes you can get help there that you can't get anywhere else. There are forums also at http://www.vcdhelp.com. You could scan there and see if anyone has seen this problem. VCDhelp is more lightweight than Doom9, but maybe someone there has seen your problem. It seems that the more complicated a DVD is, the more likely you are to have problems copying it. I know that LOTR has tons of supplemental stuff. Could you maybe have a multiangle problem? I've never seen the film (no kidding - never seen it) so I don't know what the DVD is like, but multiangle DVDs are tough for a lot of programs to copy correctly. Usually you have to pick one angle and hope for the best. You could also go to Doom9 and download DVDSqueeze. I think your program copies DVD9 to DVD5 discs, right? DVDSqueeze is free and if it helps you with this problem, you can use your program on other discs and get past the LOTR problem.
I was able to create a DVD+RW that works fine on my standalone player.
I tried several times the same process but it seems that I had forgot to save the modifications made in .ifo files when I run "Get VTS Sectors" form Ifoedit.
I'm not sure but it's the only explication I have.
I got now another problem but it's different. I burned a DVD+RW and it works fine; When I try to burn the same to a DVD-R (I have a Sony DR500-A drive) it gives me an error and I crashed 2 DVD-R's (I didn't use the Verification before Writing...), and I'm working on this problem now.
Perhaps it is a question of "some" Bytes more than the capacity of disc.
I'll try to reduce a little bit the contents of the disc.
Anyway thanks for your help.
