Conversion of subtitle files

How to convert subtitle files? e.g.
*.dat to *.scr or *.son or *.txt etc.

From what I know "Dat" files are the format the VCD"s are in after they are Burnt to a CD-r, and Don"t really have anything to do with Subtitle files...

your right, but i also get dat-files by demuxing mpg-2-files (with subtitles) using TMPEnc.

http://www.doom9.net has guides and programs on doing a
variety of things with subtitles. Maybe something there
