Ok question? I have looked at riches site and all over the ^%#& internet maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing. But I have captured using an aiw 7500 to 720x480 with a resulting file with the mp2 extention. I just want to cut out the commercials and make an svcd. I really dont know why it has become such a project. I have changed the file to .mpg and used studio 8 which I thought was going to be the easiest solution ...but no like a jack^%#$ I couldnt take the time to look up any problems with pinnacle version 8.Everything I had heard and read untill i used it was all good then the freezing began.. after several attempts no luck. I have tried using tmpeg which was ok for the begining and end but all of a sudden it doesnt work anymore I tried ulead 6.5 it doesnt like the files I tried m2edit no go I tried adobe premire no good. Ulead dvd movie factory... quack!! I have made svcd and vcd for a few years now but this mp2 file editing is pissing me off I am obviosly missing something simple any help would be appreciated.

Mpeg Files aren"t Meant to be edited That is Why it is hard to find a Good Program for editing them..What you can do is Download Tmpgenc and use it"s "Mpeg Tools" which has a Mpeg editor and Just cut out all the Parts you want to keep and join them together in the Merge & Cut" Cuz the editor Basicly just supports Cutting one part at a Time....

M2-Edit PRO or Womble MPEGVCR can be used to cut out commersials. But instead of cut out commerials you should cut everything except the comerials and join the movie parts together in the editor. But those programs are not free so you have to either buy them or find som cracks...

It's not difficult to edit mpeg2 if you have a good mpeg2-editor like m2-edit pro or womble. It can be done without any transcoding except only a few frames around the cut point.

Sometimes you don't have anything else except the mpeg file as source. I have bought a digital TV card that captures DVB streams directly as they ar sent on the cable network in mpeg2 transport stream format and then it does not make sense to convert it to AVI, edit it and transcode it back when the source format is already DVD compliant... And sometimes I also capture analogue video directly to mpeg2 format because it is much faster way to do it. But I agree that it is easier to edit avi than mpeg2 if the source is avi. It's a good rule to edit the source before any transcoding to another format, because why waste encoding time on parts you will throw away after encoding?

womble

I vote for Womble. I've had problems in the past with MPEG1 on it, but for MPEG2 its as easy as it gets.

I also recommend CBR as your encoding choice when you plan to edit. I find it is more stable with respect to audio synch, however I acknowledge that the issue is sooo complex, that only 10 billion other things can cause that sort of issue.

MediaWare's MyFlix is great for MPEG1 editing, and they have a more expensive MPEG2 version that is probably good also, but as a matter of fact, they also recommend you use CBR for encoding and editing.

Yes, it is possible to do this with TMPGenc, but many
many people here have had terrible audio sync problems
when they used it for editing. Some people do, some
don't, but the percentage who do is pretty high. I vote
for Womble too.

Rich's site is http://www.pcphotovideo.com

As far as Gary's post goes, some people have problems with TMPGenc, some people don't. Looks like he's one of the ones who doesn't. I had terrible sync problems whenever I tried to use it to cut videos.

TEMPGenc works fine for me as an editor. Add the file you're editing as many times as you need and Edit it under Merge and Cut; then save it to a new mpeg file.

You don't have to run each session individually and then merge them.
