Anyone try putting TWO (2) ATI AIW cards into ONE (1) PC???

This is pushing every envelope but.... Imagine one AGP and one (older) PCI, into a 3GHz multi-thread or dual P4 MOBO system with numerous hard drives. Installing MMC into different directories.

Sounds crazy - especially when you need 2 sound cards also (probably!) and creative labs web site SAYS that you cannot install more than one sound card in a single PC. They're right - I tried. You need to use a non creative card for the second.

Well I know there is a Way to have the "ATI AIW 8500dv" (and Simular cards) and a BT8*8 TV Card in the same machine and Use Them Both at the same time..I was reading up on this Last night Cuz I was looking for a Cheaper card with the Rage Theater 200 Capture Chip and came across an article that was reviewing the 8500DV and they were talking about setting it up to use another TV Tuner so to capture Picture in Picture Video...

Hi, Hih

Question was about 2 ATI cards, but because older AIW's do not capture X*576 or X*480 .avi You must have an other card for AVI-capture. Hauppauge WinTW is good enough.
One audiocard is enough, just put an 2to1 addon-plug to line-in.

Have no idea about the ATI cards, but its straightforward to install two Soundblasterlive cards provided you dont use Creative drivers for both.

For example...install the first card using the drivers available at http://www.kxproject.com/ Then add the second card and use either the normal Creative drivers or the kx drivers again.

Not as wierd as you think....

It sounds like no one has tried.

WHY BOTHER??

Have a TV? Have a VCR? Most people do . Can THEY watch one show while recording another? YES (90% of the civilized world)!

Do you have a Monitor? Have a cap card? Can YOU watch one show while recording another? NO. (0% of the overly-educated nerd/geek world!) Even after all the time, all the money we toss at it?

Many of my friends already run with 2 video cards and 2 monitors - gives thems a niiiiiiiice big desktop. Install (they say) was pretty straight forward - no driver conflicts, etc. So why not try this with AIW cards??? If 2 works why stop at there....(4?)!

It took a while but I was thrilled when I got 4 sound cards working in one PC - that was to build an 8-track recording station. Nice in theory but too many incompatibilities fir practicle use. This will probably fall in the same category.

Of course there are alternatives:

1) Sure I could have 2 PCs
-- thats no fun

2) minimize the capture window and maximize the playback window
-- This ALMOST worked! My 1.4G could handle the CPU load, barely (80%-ish). Problem was that it was too unreliable - BSOD my W2K too often. XP was worse.
--Another pain is that during recording the MMC RECORD window will NOT MINIMIZE so you have to push it off screen as best you can.
--This of course, is the coolest solution and the first thing I will try on the hyperthread CPU.

3) Add an external box/type capture device and hope the drivers don't conflict. No interupt/DMA sound card issues this way.

Open those minds! Crrrreeeeeeeeak!

Looks like I'm not the first nut to get frustrated with this otherwise simple concept! Hail Eugene Gavrilov!

I had to give up on CL and went to cheap generics - a good idea since you will need to do some soldering to replace the crystals on them with high Q ones (<100ppm)- always a nervous moment...

Ultimately the problem was in the capture software that supported mutliple sound cards. Today there are many such programs - it might work now. Maybe if I used CL cards with Eugene Gavrilov drivers...

But I digress from the video issue...

I think the people of Wales are in good shape, there seem to be many left without us saving them. Some of the WHALES though could use your help.
