I use ATI's MMC (7.7) to encode direct to mpeg2 half frame DVD for tv and analog video capture - I'm quite happy with the resulting video, but one thing has always bothered me. When I author a DVD in both spruceup and video studio 6, the menus look fine, but when the video plays it always shows about a second "squished" at the half-frame res - also happens when I ff/rev or jump to the next/prev chapter in a set top player (Pioneer dv333). Very annoying and not very professional looking!
I always suspected something was not quite "right" with the IFOs, so I finally did a little playing around with IFOedit. Turns out the IFO says the movie is 740x480, not 352x480 - so when the poor player tries to play the movie it's expecting data at that res - it seems to recover and "jump" to the right res after a few frames, but it's yucky to see it happen.
Anyway, good news! Just changing the movie res to 352x480 via IFOEdit, and then burning to dvd fixes it up just spiffy, so it all works as expected now - no squeeze ever no matter what I do.
Just thought I'd pass along the tip for anyone doing half frame encodes with spruceup or video studio 6. |
