MMC 7.7.0.1/AIW 128 pro weirdness

Help! I have no idea what I did, but somehow my MMC 7.7.0.1 has stopped working. It was BSOD on me out of the blue, so I thought I'd uninstall/reinstall it. Whoa that was a bad idea! Now when I re-installed it, launching TV does nothing at all. Yet VirtualDub and VideoStudio 6 both get good video from the card.

Tried doing a clean install of the latest drivers for the card, no change either.

Anybody know what I did wrong?

I'm not surprised that the software when "boom" on you. The fact that Vdub works with your card proves that its not hardware failure.
Try uninstalling the software again and reboot. Now re-load your ATI drivers, reboot. Reload MMC7.7 and you guessed it....reboot.
For a detailed way to uninstall, try this link:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ATI_AIW_Guide.htm
Its a little dated, as it talks about MMC 7.1, but the uninstall instructions will help.

cheers

One more thing...

If you are using WinME or WinXP, you may want to try a "system restore" to a point when it was working correctly. As this is more then likley a software issue.

It's win2k - no restore possible :(

I'm actually finding that the latest version of VideoStudio6 does a slightly better job of real-time mpeg2 D1 encodes, so I think I'll stick with that for now (losing the ability to use MMC/GuidePlus as a digital vcr) until the new MMC 8.1 is released. I'll try again then. Thanks for the suggestions!

More attemps, close but no cigar

Looks like I'm missing

"ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio" in my sounds under device manager. I've tried re-installing the catalyst stuff, still no joy. How the heck do I get that one WDM device installed? I can't help but think if I could just get it, I'd be all set.

WDM driver is available on the ATI site.
Just look under drivers for Win2k for the AIW 9700 Pro.

Yep, that did it

I went ahead and set up a second win2k install - nothing in there except MMC, for captures. Worked like a champ. Ugh, that is one heck of a mess (ATI Drivers/MMC)

Now I need to find Gemstar again - misplaced my ati disks long ago
