Upgrade MMC 7.0 to 8.1?

I've seen that many are using ATI's MMC 8.1. I've been using MMC 7.0 and it seems to be working fine, but it doesn't seem to be all that great at capturing. I assume I'm limited by my PC (P3-866, 512Meg SDRAM), but wonder if I might see an improvement if I were to upgrade my MMC to 8.1.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Tim

Maybe you should think about upgradeing your Computer, I just bought a Brand New BareBones Athlon XP 2000+ system for $75 for a Friend of mine, it came with a with a Case with a 350 watt power supply heat sink Fan 2000+ Processor 256mb DDR Ram, MotherBoard with Integrated Video and Sound and it takes either DDR or SDR Ram, just have to throw in a CD Drive and Hard drive to make it a Full system, the Shipping cost more than the Computer, I could have gotten a p-4 1.8ghz for arround the same Price..It was on ebay, ..

I kind of gave up on ATI about a year and a half ago, although I do have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. People on this forum who have various ATI cards have reported all kinds of nice improvements starting with MMC 7.7. I have not yet upgraded past MMC 7.5, but based on what I've read, the enhancements are significant. People are reporting being able to do full frame DVD captures, which was something that you simply could not do without dropping frames on older versions of MMC. Be very careful in upgrading, but I think you will be pleased if you do it. http://www.pcphotovideo.com has some instructions on upgrading ATI software and I suggest you follow them. People who do not uninstall the old drivers and simply upgrade on top of them often have problems. I upgraded from 7.0 to 7.5 using these instructions and had no problems at all.

You can also look here at my guide to uninstall ATI stuff, it may be a little old, but still works great.

For editing the registry, the tools I link there are the best and pretty much idiot proof. Running around in there can be a mess and I have noticed that ATI puts registry entries in different places, depending on video card, OS, MMC version and I am pretty sure some complex algroythm calculating day of the week, local weather and the Euro to USD exchange rate.
