MMC 8.1 Record Timer Not Working Since XP installApril 16 2003 at 6:24 PM | gammer73 (no login) |
| Hey,
I can't get the timer record "thingy" with MMC 8.1 to work. The box pops up when its supposed to start, but the record time just sits at 0 and nothing gets recorded.
I recently obtained WinXP Pro, did a fresh install and installed SP1.
Then I installed the newest Video drivers and WDM drivers for my All-In-Wonder Radeon. Next I installed DX9a, MDAC and finaly MMC 8.1....exactly how ATI says to do it.
I had this exact same set up before I installed XP, and I was using Win2000 and the record timer worked fine.
Anyone else with this issue?
Thanks
gammer

Thank you, I didnt know that forum existed.
It looks like the problem is somthing to do with the new WDM drivers and/or the new Video drivers.
I see there is a "work-around", but no fix yet.
Luckily, I made an image of my O/S before I installed any ATI stuff. So, I'll re-image it back to a fresh WinXP, SP1 and try loading the previous WDM drivers and Video drivers.
I'll post my results.
...out...

I imaged back to a fresh install of WinXP SP1. Then I used the previous version of the WDM drivers and the Display drivers for the AIW Radeon.
This produced the same result as my original problem...record timer at 0:00 and nothing recorded.
I am using an Asus mainboard with that VIA KT400 chipset, and there is some speculation that the chipset maybe causing this issue.
The only things different from my previous working setup were: Win XP and DX9a.
I then installed Win2k SP3, DX9, the previous versions of WDM and Video drivers and now MMC 8.1 works like a charm.
I still can't pin-point what the problem is...weather its DX9a or some conflict with WinXP or even my chipset, but I know that this Win2k set up is ok.
Just my 0.02 on the situation...

Hi,
Why on earth did You try to upgrade Win2K to XP?? |

I use it @ work and wanted to try it @ home.
I like how XP has system restore and you can run 'msconfig'.
I also like how I keep images for my computer for all the O/S's, incase stuff like this happens and I need to revert back

You can run msconfig on Win2k as well. There is a dll or cpl file that you can download and put in your system directory. Works great. I know how you feel, I don't think that I could use an OS without msconfig. Startup tab alone is worth it's weight in gold.

When I upgraded to dx9 I also lost the ability to record. I found the following solution that helped with my particular problem:
1-Run Regedit
2-Find AVBISurf.ax
3-Change ThreadingModel" from Both to none.
It will then no longer crash other capture applications like Uleads. Maybe it'll help with your problem. |

Hi,
I have exactlly the same problem with a Windows XP Pro SP1, All In Wonder Radeon, Catalyst 3.2, MMC 8.1 and an ASU A7V8X KT400. I keep on looking for a solution. I have already done all update I could do (Direct X 9a, WMP9,MDAC, Windows Update) without good results.
What I mentionned is that just after rebooting it work for a while than no reccording anymore.

Hi Tom,
Another thing that maybe causing this problem is the chipset drivers that come with your motherboard. In particular the AGP driver.
Did you install those drivers?
I am currently NOT using any of the chipset drivers provided, just incase that is the conflict. It seems that Win2k and WinXP don't necessarily need them to work.
I wish I had more time to try every possible combination software to find out exactly what it is causing this issue. But I don't
For the time being, the Win2k config I mentioned above is working.

Hi Gammer
thanks for your response. I have isntalled the VIA 4 in 1 chipset drivers version 4.46 for the KT400.
But I did it because it was not working before this upgrade. I have also tried ather compression (ex ATI VCR) but nothing better work (time remains 00:00) If I switch display to 'show total frame', the message remains 'Starting...'
I had an Windows XP SP1 version that was working fine with the AIW Radeon but I had a disk problem than I had to reinstall everything. I thing I was using Catalyst 2.x version with an older MMC.
I do not thing it is a good idea to go back to a so old version now. I wonder now if I should report it to ATI (would they react ??).
I really have the impression that if we starts a video capture immedialtelly after the boot, it works for a few secondes than no more.
Keep on testing
Regards

Gammer,
I finally reinstalled all Catalyst 2.1 drivers with the MMC 7.6 and now it works on my configuration (ASU, Win XP SP1,...)
I thing there is a bug on the Catalyst 3.X drivers when working with All In Wonder Radeon.(I saw several messages about the same problem on different Forum's)
Let's hope ATI will fix it soon ....

Yes I hope it is fixed soon too.
However, you should be able to use MMC 8.1.
This is what I am using with Win2k sp3 and the old Cat and vid drivers.
At the very least, there is a .dll file from MMC 7.7 and 8.1 that you can copy to 7.6. This will fix the "spike" problems when trying to capture compliant SVCD's. I have seen this in a recent post on this forum.
Take Care,
