Divx to Svcd sync problem

Hey, I'm having the strangest problem creating svcds. I use virtualdub to seperate my divx file into 3 so I can put the movie on 3 cds, I then use nero to burn the cds, the first disc is fine and has no problems, the 3rd disc is fine and has no problems, but on the 2nd disc the audio is behind the video, this has happened with every movie I've made so far. I don't see why the sync problem is only on the 2nd disc. I can't convert to mpeg2 with TMPGenc because it freezes everytime I try and convert. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

virtualdub

I too have had different issues of synch when using Virtualdub to split...so I don't. Others here more conversant with that program might be able to help you fix it.

I'd focus in on your problem with TMPGEnc. You might verify what MPEG2/divx codec you have and try downloading another. You might also give either one of them a higher priority in TMPGEnc's environmental settings. It seems counter intuitive to me, but believe it or not, sometimes TMPGEnc won't do the job if the priority setting isn't high enough for the codec. That part of the program is still voodoo to me, but I have had good results in moving the type file I wanted higher in the env. que.

Finally, you can consider using TMPGEnc to move to MPEG1 VCD instead of SVCD. If this is a high quality DIVX file, especially if its a DVD rip, you may well not be able to tell the difference from SVCD, even if you use some fairly quick and dirty settings to convert to mpeg1.

good luck,

mark

You should never Use "Nero" to encode your Files, Well that is if you are in to Quality at all, Nero" is Probably the Worst Quality Mpeg encoder there is, For me Personally I would rather not have the Movie at all than use Nero to encode it, As Mark says you are better off Resolveing your Problems with Tmpgenc or use a Different encoder than Use Nero to encode..If you use Something like "MainConcept Encoder" it will automaticly split your Files into Pieces as it is encodeing and the Quality is Good but it isn"t freeware but sometimes you have to spend some money if you want things to work Right...

Luisifer, I hadn't actually picked up on the fact that he was encoding with Nero. That is definitely a newbie solution...and I should know...I did it too.

As for MainConcept, if he can get it to decode Divx he's one of the lucky ones. For me MC always freezes partway through AVI files, and there are a number of threads here, and on Mainconcepts site to show that others have the problem as well, and it hasn't been resolved.

MC is dandy for taking high bitrate mpg though and trimming down to vcd or svcd.

Procoder is the best, but its fusssy, and TMPGEnc sits in the middle...neither as good as MC, but more flexible than MC or Procoder. I'm glad I have all of them.

MainConcept works Flawlessly for me with files that I make Myself but with Downloaded files I allways have Problems, But that can usually be blamed on the Files them selves cuz Downloaded files are usually corrupt to some degree...That is why I don"t use downloaded files anymore, It"s just a waste of time....

Well there's the rub, if TMPGEnc, Procoder, and CCE can read them, and only MC can't then who's got the problem, MC or all the files? I think the issue lies with MC myself.

For the record, AVI files that I produced for testing purposes also failed on MC, so I think there's more to this than meets the eye, and the folks at MC seem to think so too. They're supposed to be addressing it in 1.4.

Personally, I'd love to see MC work on such files because it is awfully fast. Mind you, I can decode an AVI file to VCD MPEG1 just as fast on TMPGEnc as I can on MC with outstanding quality as long as the AVI file was originally ripped from DVD.

I can only go From Personal experience and from what I do working For Pegasus/Tmpgenc, I personally never had MainConcept Crash on me then again I only use it on Rare occations anymore Cuz it doesn"t have a Multi-Pass VBR Option..I am relegated to useing CCE 95% of the Time these days, even for VCD resolutions files but I use Mpeg2 instead of Mpeg1 and Burn as a XSVCD, But anyways I have other issues with MainConcept that "They" say they will address in the Next Version...Cheers
