Hello all, i need some help please

I have just started encoding, and have been trying all day to get this right.
Im trying to encode a dvd (The Matrix)to SVCD.
I am using Tmpgenc 2.5. The source is a widescreen/16:9 .vob file which i want to convert to a 4:3 svcd.
After ages of trying i got the propertions of the svcd right, but nog there are 2 shades of black when i play the file:

The settings i used to get this are like this:

is there anything im doing wrong, or is there anything i can do to make those black area's look nice?

Thanx a million 4 any help!

edit: i ripped the chapter/.vob file with dvd2svcd and the vob file played perfect from my hd

From looking at your sample the lighter band was part of the actual frame. It's black level isn't black. The outside black bars are at the correct black level. As they were probably not from the TMPGenc encoding. The 2nd set of black bars (directly next to the picture) are probably produced during the encoding to get the aspect correct.

In other words I would guess (and I have to just guess cuz I have little experience ripping DVD)I would say that you need to look at your TMPGenc and adjust the black level to what it should be (or lower). If you look at the actual frame (video content inside the black bars) it too looks "washed out". Sort of the effect you get when you are editing still frames and have the gamma up too high.

Perhaps someone here can help by telling you how to (or if you can) adjust the various video levels during the encoding.

Basically you want to adjust the black level down until the two bars are the same. If you did that, I think it would also improve the actual video and make it not so "washed out".

Try changing the Source Aspect Ratio from 16:9 to 1:1 VGA. Also, change the Video arrange Method to plain old "Full Screen". I have a feeling this might be causing the double black lines.

Gamer, that's nonsens... DVD-Source never has the AR of 1:1 VGA!

All he has to do is to use Clip frame to crop the black Borders of the Video. Then Use Center (Custom size) to place the Video right into the Window. (width = 480, height = Hight after Cropping) That's realy simple...
