hi I am very new to this. I have looked thru the board and have not found any answer to my issue.
here it is : I have a scvd, it plays fine on computer, when I put it in my dvd player it plays but the picture rols constantly, sound is fine. any ideas. please help.
Sounds like a PAL/NTSC mismatch. What I mean is that your SVCD is playing back in a format opposite to what your TV expects. In most cases this means you are playing a PAL SVCD on a NTSC TV. Some DVD players have an option to set TV ouptut to something like PAL, NTSC, Multi. You should set your TV output to either PAL or NTSC as appropriate and use Multi only if you have a multistandard TV. If you live in the US or Canada, you do not have a multistandard TV unless you bought one.
That is the effect you get when your SVCD has to high of a Bitrate for your DVD Player to handle(Or your DVD Player does not support SVCD), Many Name Brand DVD Players will only play SVCD"s if the Bitrate and Mux rate is Totally SVCD Compliant and if it is just a bit out the Dvd Player will have Problems with the SVCD....
You may be right, although in my experience, too high a bit rate usually results in the picture appearing jerky and the rolling effect the poster mentioned is almost always a PAL/NTSC problem.
The Pal/NTSC Problem you are reffering to I have only seen it manifest it self in a Black & White Picture never in a Rolling Picture, Well that is How it works on My TV when I tried Pal Material on it...
