Hi, ive recently downloaded a divx movie, and i can see the movie but theres no sound. Now ive downloaded hundreds of movies before that were divx and they played fine but this is the first one that has no sound. I have windows xp pro, WinDVD platinum, and WMP. I have a divx codec and xvid codec. ive tryed reinstalling them it didnt work. Can someone please help.
It has been said before that when you download someone else's movies that "all bets are off".
Do you have any way of knowing if the video actually has sound? ie. - download it to a friends computer and test? or do you know the person you downloaded it from?
It maybe somthing as simple that it actually doesn't have sound...especially if you have been downloading DivX movies that are working fine and all of a sudden this doesn't work.
If not, then I would try getting the most recent version of DivX, if you dont already have it.
There are many possibilities for sound with DivX. AC3, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis are all possibilities. Have you ever installed the Ogg Vorbis codec? If not, maybe that's what you need. Also Gammer could be correct that the DivX may not have any audio because of a mistake or a deliberate omission.
I'll vote with Luisifer. I've run into AC3 as my primary problem. Usually ac3 is in the file title of such a movie, but not always. Get an ac3 filter and a for translation, a utility that will allow you to translate from ac3 to wav.
Or if money's no object, Ulead has a new version of their videostudio program that supports Ac3. That could become pretty popular down the road.
