The question is, does your standalone DVD Player play SVCDs ? Go to www.dvdhelp.com and look for DVD Player compatibility, see if your player is listed. If it is, then you may have a problem with your SVCD Disk. If it is not compatible, look and see whether there are any hacks for your DVDplayer, that will allow you to play SVCDs!! As you should know, the hacks are at your own risk. Good luck

Some players are also picky with the media. If you have burned it onto CD-R, try CD-RW or another disc brand.

Don't know where you live in this world, but here is what you can do and save some money. If you live somewhere close to a TARGET store in USA? Go buy yourself one of those "Mintek DVD 1600"
http://www.mintekdigital.com/products/dvd1600.htm which can playback anything you want just for a price of $39.99 when on sale or regular price is $49.99 still cheap.

Now it won't say it on the box, but the player will play VCD 2.0, SVCD 1.0, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, MP3, RAW-Media also, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-K, Photo-CD, Jpeg-CD and the new MiniDVD, but again there won't be any mention of this in or outside the box.

There has been a lot of talk about it on http://www.nerd-out.com if you want to learn more about Mintek, Apex home DVD players.

I own 3 of them, highly recommend them! Forget about Panasonic, SONY, Toshiba, Denon, JVC, Daewoo, Samsung an etc DVD players when they give you that Disc Error, get the Mintek!

play svcd on regular player

June 25 2003, 12:03 PM

check on http://www.vcdhelp.com "DVD players" item

But even if vcdhelp says it is compatible, i've experienced that it may be depended on the type and brand of CD-R you use (on JVC XVN 33 SL).

Hope it helps.
