Am I the only person having DVD burn issues with Nero?
I use SpruceUp to author, but when I use the nero wizard to create "DVD Video" it already puts the audio and video folders into the setup. I can't delete the video folder so I'm stuck copying the files from my video folder to nero's. Unfortunately I always get a response that it can't use some of the files I want to copy. So...I leave them out.
Next Nero tells me that the files are mixed up and it has to sort that out. Then it tells me it failed, and its GAME OVER.
I can next try the udf/something or other, and that works okay to burn, but doesn't play on both my machines, so that's a dead loss.
So far the best result I've had is to burn UDF only without multisession...which for some reason Nero now asks me about every time even tho it never used to.
My process is to burn a UDF/ISO DVD and Nero DOES NOT create the VIDEO_TS or the AUDIO_TS folders; I can drag the ones over that SpruceUp made. Next I make sure to check "Force compatability mode", I can't remember what tab its under, but its in the same section where it says UDF 1.02 as Physical Partition. And Multisession is always unchecked.
Nero also sorts out the VOB files for me, but then it goes on to burn them.
At first I was not checking the "Force Compatability Mode" and I could not play my DVD's in my Apex AD-500 and a few other dvd players. But, after I checked it, I have not had a compatability problem; it plays in every dvd player I have tried.
After you choose UDF/ISO, click on the UDF tab and its in there.
It says exactly: "Force DVD-Video Compatability mode (required for Xbox TM)"
At first I thought it was exclusivly for making DVD's to play on the Xbox, but after I tried it I realized it is all around more compatable with other dvd players.
P.S. What version of Nero are you using? Because I never saw this checkbox until I updated to version 5.5.10.7. So you may need to update too.
That's strange, because (I think) I do exactly what you do: I author with SpruceUp, output to a titleset, and then drag all the files from the resulting TS_VIDEO directory (except the .lay file) into the TS_VIDEO directory that Nero provides when I select its DVD template. Works fine.
The only thing I adjust in Nero is to ensure the Joilet option is unticked.
I'm at work so dont recall precisely which Nero version I have - however I know there was one of the recent iterations that was buggy for DVD - might be worth trying another version?
Yeah, I'm upgrading. That should give me the new option of force compat., and maybe fix another thing or two. My version was 5.5.9 I think. Anyway I'd not upgraded further because .10 was found to be buggy. This latest version .10.7 might be the charm.
I've had few problems making DVDs with the last 2 versions of Nero. If you really get desperate, you can use DVD Decrypter to burn but you'll have to get your DVD files into a DVD image first. http://www.doom9.net should have some DVD Decrypter guides on doing that. I don't remember the name of it, but Doom9 has a program that can create DVD images that you can feed into DVD Decrypter to burn.
I used the udf/iso with the forced compat. turned on. At first it didn't work in my RCA player, so I took it to my Pioneer player and it worked fine.
I took it back to my RCA player and this time it fired up okay!
It seems to me that so far the UDF 1.o2 is most compatible, but I'm concerned that I might have a bunch of obsolete DVD's. I'll give the UDF/ISO another try tho.
From what I have researched, it appears that any DVD player capable of playing UDF 1.05 can read UDF 1.02.
But, DVD players that only read UDF 1.02 can't read UDV 1.05.
So you should be safe in making UDF 1.02 from now on.
I'm sure there is probably the odd exception to this rule, but I have tested my DVD's made this way on brand new DVD players and they play fine.
