You could convert them to mpeg2 files, and then use a DVD authoring application (like Nero6) to burn them to VOB files in a standard DVD format.

There was a post on this topic a few days ago - search back a bit and it may suggest what programs to use to do the conversion.

All you have to do Is Rename the VRO files to Mpg Cuz that is what they are, Or I guess you can just run them through a Mpeg editor like Mpeg2VCR and edit the parts of the VRO files that you want and they will be edited as Mpeg files..You will have to Use a Real DVD Authoring Program to Put these files on DVD and Not Nero 6, Nero is Not a DVD authoring Program and will only burn a DVD if it is allready formated as a Video_TS folder, Vision Express will author a DVD but It Sucks ,I would sugest something easy like "DVD-Lab" but I would sugest you demux the audio and Video first then encode the audio to AC3 not knowing what audio format your VRO files use....Cheers

you shure can watch .vro files on you PC, use Power DVD XP ("open media files", mode all files and select your .vro file)!! but the problem may be, that in your .vro file there may be different "programs" ie. different recorded parts, that are single mpg-pieces(that won't appear all in power DVD). use TMPG DVD author 1.5 (or ulead movie factory 2) to extract these program-parts to single .mpg-files. use "import DVD" and select the appearing programs. i suppose you have connected your cam to the PC, then there your cam-drive should appear for sourcedrive.

if not so, explain how you move the .vro files to your PC (you have to move also the .ifo files!!).

if necessary, the conversion to .mpg with mgpg2vcr rules! you can also merge .vro files to one big file and save it as .mpg. here the audio format doesn't matter. or you can mark special scenes and only save them.

Have you tried going the other way mpeg2 to vro? Now that Panasonic has DVD players with the ability to play DVD-Ram I would like to know how many times I could rewrite a 2 hour movie to DVD-Ram on the Computer and then play it each time on the DVD Player as opposed to burning a DVD-R each time.

hi captain,
no i didn't try this yet. but i will try it, and tell you. but how to do so? rename .mpeg-file to .vro and copy to RAM? lets see.
i have heard, that DVD-RAM discs can be rewritten a 1000 times without damage!! sure that will depend on the quality of the disc. i buy cheap ones (8 euro a 9,6 GB disc) and use it only for moving data from DVD recorder to PC.

DVD-Ram is rewriteable up to 100,000 times is the claim, Hence the advantage over DVD+RW.

You can either use Womble MPEG2VCR to open your .vro file on the RAM disc, edit it, and then save as .mpg. Or if you can get your hands on Panasonic's DVD Movie Album, it will export the .vro to .mpg. Simply renaming may sometimes cause problems since the bitrate may go over 10Mb/s VBR on the original recording. If you use DVD Movie Album it has an option to " output as DVD compliant file ". The .vro will be output as an .mpg file with a max bitrate of 8.0Mb/s VBR. It takes about 20min to output a 4gig file from DVD-RAM to HDD using this option.

Captain Crunch.....To answer your above question about .mpg to .vro I don't think it can be done. What I HAVE been able to do is burn a Title Set to DVD-RAM with Nero, and watch it from that. You don't have to get fancy with menus, etc, just take the .mpg and have your authoring software make the Title Set. I use DVD Workshop for that, then Nero for the burn.

When you say watch it. Do you mean from the stand alone recorder/player or do you mean on your computer? I usually burn from SpruceUp to DVD-R but a title set and then Nero would be fine if I could rewrite to the Ram each time.

Captain...
Any software DVD Player in the computer will play it from my RAM drive, still working on getting it to play in my standalone (DMR-E30). It's a formatting problem that the E30 won't recognize, yet the RAM drive in the PC has no problem with it. It could also be a Nero problem, but I'm going to figure it out!

the web site http://panasonic.jp/dvdram/english/dvdmulti/index.html
shows the process using their multi software. I am have the pana d321 1x and have been unable to find the software or if it would work on the 321. I am thinking about getting a multi 5xx just to upgrade to 2x and get the software.

I wonder if it will work with the new LG 4040B as well, since the 4020B was the identical drive to Panny's 2X drive. The LG 4040B does 4X DVD+/-R,2X R(W) and 3X RAM. I'm thinking of getting it just to try it out. It's only about $30 more than Panny's 2X drive, and I always try and skip a speed when I do upgrades. So go from 1X to 4X rather than 1X to 2X to 4X. Something to think about anyway.

Wish we could edit a post...... I just took a look at the link you posted, and I can't find anywhere where they talk about being able to take .mpg files and putting them on DVD-RAM as .vro. They go on and on about going from DVD-RAM to DVD-R/W and .vro to .mpg but nowhere do they mention .mpg to .vro. It's too bad, since I don't think it would have been rocket science to enable Movie Album to " go the other way " as well. All it would have to do is build the RTAV directory and info for the file, they it would play just like one recorded in their standalone recorders.

I ordered the LG GSA-4040B and will get it on Monday. $165 US from www.mwave.com. The price is too good to be true but We will see. I did a google search and came up with a review on cnet. Some comments, does not burn at 1x. Ram can not be in cart. software is Bgold 5.0 but does not include movie album. Overall review was positive.I think gold burns .VRO. I will post for feedback on 4040 and see what data is out there.
