Problems using 2 pass VBR in CCE

I am having a problem using 2 pass VBR and AVIsynth.
When i use an AVIsynth script and CBR or 1 pass VBR, CCE works fine. If i use the same script and 2 pass VBR, CCE completes the first pass/phase and locks up.
Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution. Also i was testing a CCE GUI, BATCHCCEWS, it allowed me to encode a 45 Minute Clip in 8 Minutes!!!. But it also locks up after the first pass thru when I try 2 pass vbr, works fine for CBR and 1 pass VBR. It uses AVIsynth in the background. What is strange is that i can frameserve to CCE using VFAPI and do 2 pass VBR with no problems other than being much slower than AVIsynth. BatchCCEWS can't open the AVI file created by VFAPI The problem i have with CBR and 1 pass VBR encoding is with the motion scenes, they become blocky.

Thanks in advance,

There is a 99% chance the problem is really with CCE. No one seems to know why, but on certain PCs CCE will freeze up on a mutlipass encode. There is a solution for it. After CCE starts, bring up your task manager and look for the CCE job. It's something like cctsp or something similar. I don't remember exactly. Right click on the process and go to Set Priority and change it to Realtime. This works on Windows 2000. I assume other versions of Windows can do the same. If you run CCE in Realtime priority, it won't lock up. This means also that you should not use your PC for anything else while the encoding is going on. I had problems with CCE freezing when I used it in the past and this was the only thing that worked and it worked every time.

And there are Certain AVISynth Filters that you can Not use with CCE doing multi-pass encodeing, A couple that I can remember are "FluxSmooth.dll" and "Convolution3D.dll" and a couple other Noise Type Filters..The reason why some filters don"t work is Cuz they can"t seem to filter the exact same image the same way Twice so the Image is subtly different for each pass and when the encoder notices this it will either give an error or Freeze up...I usually use One Pass VBR if the Source file is Good and get very good results Just as good as the Multi-Pass when working with Good Source files....Cheers

What version of CCE are you useing???? I use CCE SP 2.67 and I use AVISynth with it all the Time and I dont have any Problems encodeing ,If you are useing an older version try upgradeing to this version ,for me it is the best so far...And you shouldn"t get Blockyness useing one Pass VBR if you set it up properly ,Try a Smaller GOP it will produce a Better Quality image in Motion scenes, i use a 12 frame GOP and it seems to work great, and you should try setting the Q level as low as possible, I find it is Better to Lower the Q level to 20 or so and if the Average bitrate goes to high lower the Max Bitrate and Dont Put the Minimum bitrate to low...Just a few tips that Might help...Cheers

I'm sorry that didn't help. I really thought that would do the trick. Lusifer has some excellent suggestions and maybe one of them will help you. If running CCE in Realtime mode didn't solve the problem, my guess is that CCE is not the problem and it is the scripts you are running. Sometimes the forus at http://www.doom9.net can help with problems like this, but I strongly suggest that you search the forums for your problem before posting. Doom9 has a lot of really smart people on its forums, but I will be honest with you, a lot of them have very bad attitudes and you are just as likely to get no answer or a smart-alecky one as anything helpful. If you just can't make it work any other way, you could always see if they can help as you're no worse off if they don't help and you're better off if they do.

Thanks Jason and Luisifer for the help.

I'm using CCE SP 266.1.07. I can frameserve to CCE using VFAPI but my max speed is .80. When i use AVIsynth my max speed is 1.20. When i use BatchCCEWS my max speed jumps to 6.0!!!. BatchCCEWS allows you to change the parameters that Luisifer mentioned, so I will try those settings with 1 pass VBR, since 1 pass works fine. Have any of you guys tried BatchCCEWS, i got it from the Doom9 page.

Thanks Again for the help

Never tried BatchCCEWS. It's been quite a while since I even used CCE. I don't make SVCDs any more. My main interest in DVD making is recording a few TV shows and some old laserdiscs. I have an old 1 GHz CPU and it just takes too long for me to use CCE. The best speed I ever got was about .6 or so with CCE. I may try BatchCCEWS some day, but right now I only have the 1 PC at home and I use it too much to be able to tie it up for long periods of time doing CCE encodes.
