Having a problem editing mpeg2 (svcd ) setting created by aiw

I bought a aiw 9000. It seemed to do ok wheni tried vcd.

When trying a svcd, it came out ok also. Myproblem is cutting commercials out. Using tmeg i get sufficent shifts between audio and video lining up.

When i tried using m2 edit pro, i notice that the sound seems synced right on the small clip i did. The video looks like its starting correctly (may be wrong though) but its ending much quicker and im seeing a few seconds of commecials at the end.

I notice that when i go through it frame by frame in tmeg it doesnt advance right.. wehn i go though it frame by frame in m2 edit pro, it shows some screens w/ a color pattern (possibly lost frames)?

Im running it on a cel 1.7 so im surprised im loosing frames. Im trying to make svcds.

any ideas are helpful.

Thanks in advance.
sincerely,
George

Tmpgenc is Officially only supposed to be used on Files encoded By Tmpgenc and it does not Support the accurate editing of files encoded in VBR...You should Try Mpeg2VCR it has worked Flawlessly for me in all sorts of Mpeg editing sutuations...

Thank you very much for writing.

So far, I have tried mpeg2vcr v3.1. Unlike the others, mpeg2vcr appears to play the original out of sync. With the TMEG and M2Edit Pro 5, it plays it in sync, but anything edited is vastly out of sync.

Im VERy frustrated as I would like to do some svcds. At the moment, I am religated to the world of svcds. I do appreciate all responses so far. And hopefully this can be fixed. If someone would like me to record a small sample to examine, Ill try to find a way to get it to you. I am using the aiw mmc 8.5 defaults settings for svcd.

Thanks again for your past and future responses.

Sincerely,
George

So it is out of Sync after you edit the file?? Well this might be a PTS Time code Problem, sometimes the Audio time code and the Video time code will be different which will cause Problem with Editing and Playback, you might try and use Mpeg2VCR 3.14"s "Gop Fixer" it will Fix any Time code errors that are in the File and it can fix the Gop so it is DVD compliant...And if you still have Problems you might switch Capture Programs..The New WinDVr 3.0 is a Superior Mpeg2 capture Program, I use it over MMC 8.5 with My AIW 8500DV, It Produces Much Crisper images than MMC and has a New Built in Decomb Filter and Noise Filter and it captures to AC3 audio for DVD and it has a Max Capture Bitrate of 20,000kbs, All the Movies I captured with WinDVR 3.0 all turned out great and the files are allways in Perfect sync...Cheers

And a better mpeg editor: "Honestech Video Editor 5". In my opinion, it outperforms MPEG-VCR, and it has a far better and more intuitive user interface (and if you look here and there, you can find a keygen for the tiral version...)

You Odviously aren"t very Experienced in this area as Honestech is well Known as a Company that makes Low end Products..I have the Honestech Video editor 5 and it works But it has a Lot of Flaws becides it being a Very Slow editor when editing part way through a GOP it re-encodes all of the Frames in that Gop to make the edit (Joining 2 Broken GOP"s) and I find it Quite Noticeable when looking at a Frame By Frame Basis through that Re-encoded GOP that there is a Noticeable Quality loss from Frames in that Gop and the Rest of the File which is due to the fact the Honestech makes a terrorable Encoder.Pluss I have had Sync problems with Honestech Mpeg editor when trying to Join Many Small files, Pluss honestech doesn"t support editing Mpeg files with Multiple AC3 audio tracks or any AC3 audio tracks.Pluss Mpeg2VCR Fixes Audio/Video PTS Errors and Gop timecode errors.....If you find it usefull for what you do that is great but it definately doesn"t stack up against Mpeg2VCR......Cheers

OK, I am not a great fan of Honestech either. I think their MPEG encoder sucks big time. However, this video editor lets you trim, cut, join, add transitions and much more, and it does "SMART RENDERING", meaning their encoder does not play any part here (except for transitions, of course). It may take longer than MPEG-VCR, but the resulting MPEG file, is perfectly synched, and I never experinced any problems with it.

"and im seeing a few seconds of commecials at the end."

Editing with MPER2VCR is very simple but only after training.

Open file, select and cut part1 pasting it to video clipboard on the left. skip commercial and select and cut part2 pasting it to video clipboard.
Close original film. Drag part1 from video clipboard to blank area on the right. New window appears. Drag part2 to this new window. Again a new window appears with two green bars (part1 and part2) and a BUG. Green dot is at the end (=Your commercial). Manually move joint-slider to the right until DOT disappears. This way I have never had audio-sync problems.

Seeing.. not hearing:)

guess that was worded poorly.

the problem is the out of sync. the sound is lined up perfectly on the output. Its edited fine. The problem is, when it starts to make the new file. The sound is lined up perfect, but the picture is sort of sped up... when it reaches the end of the segment, you get some of what comes next, which is the commercial. but the sound is edited perfectly on cue.

Thanks.
George

I'm not sure about M2-Edit Pro 5, I have only used version 4. However it does not like ATI mpg files muxed with SVCD settings. I solve this by demuxing and multiplexing it as mpeg2 program stream. Load it into m2-edit and edit. Then remuxing the edited video back to svcd mpg. A little bit boring method but it may keep the sync better. Alternatively you can change the capture settings in ATI MMC so it creates mpg with program stream muxing instad of svcd muxing to avoid the first remux step. Copy one of the DVD templates and change to svcd resolution and svcd bitrates.
