You're going to have to accidentally provide detailed information on your files and your application settings to get anything useful here.

You have to follow the VCD stabdards. It seems to me that the final video frame size is wrong. It should be 352x240 29.97fps (NTSC) or 352x288 25fps (PAL). As for bitrate, audio sampling etc... most new DVD players show a great deal of flexability in these areas.

I suggest you go here for more detailed info:

Okay, here is a hint: you asked, "is it a settings problem?" without telling us what your settings were.

Are you sure the encoder was set to VCD std? How did you burn it? With Nero? Another application? Did that authoring tool accept the file without problem?

Be very specific and concrete on exactly what you did. What is the bitrate and framerate of your final product for instance?

i will try to be as exact as i can
i open mce & find the movie iwill convert & destination
the output format shows vcd, program(video+audio)ntsc,layer2
details of xvid show
mpeg 1, 480x276 pixel 29.9fps,44100hz,2channels 16bit
field encoding progressive frame
deintelacing none
i then go into advancd & set bitrate to 1700 audio to 224
& then convert after i convert movie i use nero to burn 1st as a compliant vcd (won't play on dvd then as non compliant vcd same result
please let me know what else i can tell you so you can assist

The bitrate for VCD is fixed at 1150 so your bitrate at 1700 i way too high. Therefore no standalone DVD player will be able to play that file.

VCD setting

September 14 2003, 7:28 AM

Yup, you've gone out of your way to make your video non-compliant. I'm surprised that Nero didn't let you know with a message that it wasn't vcd.

There are some extensions to MPEG1 that can be implemented with a few players, but if you want to get it working for certain you should stick to VCD std.

There are a few players that won't play anything but commercial DVD's so watch out for them, but most support VCD, because apparently it is a trivial thing to add in.

Re: VCD setting

But the Main Reason why it Didn"t play correctly is because of the Resolution you used, You cave to have the resolution set to 352X240/288-Pal for VCD....

the way I read it...

September 14 2003, 5:35 PM

The way I read it Luisifer, he had the appropriate resolution since he chose the VCD template, and MCE would reencode appropriately. I don't see that he changed that setting, although that would surely screw the pooch.

I can see how such a mistake can happen. You assume that there is flexability in the bitrate as there is in most other stds. Not so in VCD MPEG1 of course, its tighter than a gnats ass.

I just said that because he said that the pisture was Playing in the Corner of the screen or something like that and I have made VCDs with Non-standard Resolutions that Played in the Corner of the screen, so I thought that could be his problem....Cheers

maybe i am not explaining correctly i want to convert movie as mpeg 1 so i can change bitrate & audio
i know that vcd settings can't be changed in mce but mpeg 1 can & that's what i want to do & still be able to play in standalone dvd player
any help with settings will be appreciated, perhaps mce will only accept vcd/svcd/dvd & not mpeg1/2

VCD

September 15 2003, 12:11 PM

VCD MPEG1 rules are strict. Why are you so determined to use non standard settings? Why not just convert to std VCD so that you can watch it on your player?

I have never had Problems with Non-Standard VCD"s and because VCD is such a Low Quality format I can understand why you want to increase the Bitrate..To do this you Just have to make sure that you set the Resolution to 352+240 and after encodeing the Mpeg1 file you will need to add the VCD Header to the File and it needs to be re-muxed to the standard VCD Mux rate, you can do this in Tmpgenc"s Multiplexor..As long as the Bitrate is not too high like say over 2000kbs and the Resolution is 352+240 and the Audio is 44100hz and it has a VCD Header then the File Should play properly....Good Luck
