I have ben using TMPGEnc when encoding from .avi to.mpg, but I often find this program to make more problems than good. So I would like to know if anyone can inform of an alternate program to use.

Well If you Know how to Use Tmpgenc properly then there shouldn"t be any Problems...But I Would recomend something like "MainConcept Encoder" as it Produces simular Quality and about 5 times as Fast as Tmpgenc and For Mpeg2 encodeing and if you have an advanced knowlege of Video then I would sugest CCE SP 2.67 for Encodeing to SVCD or DVD......

Thx for your reply.
Everytime i use TMPGEnc i get the following message "wite error occured at adress 77F83905 of module ntdll.dll with 00000000". I have tried looking it up in the help files but I can`t work it out. I have also tried uninstall. and the reinstall. the program as well without it helping. Could it be my video (.avi) or audio (.wav) file is where the eror really is??

Another thing, with MainConcept encoder what type of audio files do I need, I have tried .wav but that didn`t work.

Thx for you help it`s highly appreciated

Hi, The error you are getting in Tmpgenc is Caused because the file you are encodeing is Probably a XviD file and Tmpgenc doesn"t get allong well with the XviD codec so the Solution is to install the "FFDshow Decoder" and configure it to Decode XviD files, This should solve your Problem...The MainConcept Encoder will accept Most audio formats includeing Wav format, All encoders will accept Wav format because Wav is Uncompressed Audio so there is not need for a Codec to decode it...The Problem you are Haveing could be because of the Way you extracted the Audio from the AVI file..If the audio in your XviD file was AC3 and you used Virtual Dub to extract it then that could be your Problem..Virtual Dub doesn"t Properly Extract AC3 audio from AVI files, Well it does if you do it a certain way and you are useing the Virtual Dub_Mpeg2_Ac3 version with the AC3-ACM Cecompressor installed, actually if you have the AC3ACM Decompressor installed and the audio in your AVI file is AC3 then you will not need to extract it to Wav Cuz the AC3 ACM Decompressor lets you encode AVI files with AC3 audio in tmpgenc...I don"t have a Link to the AC3ACM Decompressor but if you e-mail me with your E=Mail address I will send it to you....Cheers

If the Audio in your AVI is AC3 then the AC3 ACM Decompressor should make it so Tmpgenc can encode the audio with extracting it first But with audio formats like VBR MP3 you will still need to extract the audio to Wav...I think I got your E-Mail address so I will send it to you Now...Cheers
