Beware of M$ Directx 9b !!

Hi,

Just tuning up a new PC. Had a working platform with P4HT 2.8 GHz, win200pro SP3, AIW9600 pro/MMC86. Adding USB2 support needed SP4 and with DVD-writer came NERO 6 OEM suite.
While installing I saw a message "install dx9a ?" answered yes and continued. Yes I'm sure It asked 9a.

SUPRISE, startig ATI TV next time started video-in configuration, TV-tuner HAD gone. Same with ATI FM-tuner. Reinstalling/Removing MMC86 and istalling MMC8.9 did't bring TV back.

No, I haven't win2000 auto-update enabled, but anyway now my direct-X is 9b (5.00.9002). After SP4 there is a blue screen only quite a longer while before desktop appears. Is my PC visiting M$ every time I boot-up??

SOLUTION: Removed kstvtune.ax (and ksxbar.ax) v.5.00.9002 and replaced with v. 5.00.9000. in symstem32 folder. Now M$ systemfile-protector replaced them with v. 5.00.2134.1 from year 1999. No idea where they came from?!

Removed ATI-software with ATI's remove-tool. Reinstalled drivers and sofware incl. MMC86 from original CD and now TV and FM-radio work again.

Anyone upgraded AIW9600 pro MMC8.6 to MMC8.9 ??

That hotfix will not work for PAL TV tuners from ATI
At least not for me
I installed mmc 8.8 and did run the microsoft patch
(I have a Dell computer with preinstalled directx 9.0b)
You can access the TV tuner but no channels are visible at all
ONLY after applying listed fix (see beginning of this message)I got the program running
I still have a problem with the sound.
It sounds distorted on some channels and no the audio settings are not too high

Luckily I never installed DirectX 9.0b!
Maybe that is the reason MMC 8.9 worked for me.

Hi,

Reinstalled Win2000 pro. Installed Catalyst display- and WDM driver. Installed SP4, DX9a, AIW9600pro driverpackage from original CD. MMC86 worked OK.
Uninstalled MMC86 and installed MMC89.

Now just been capturing, 1/2 DVD 352x576 4-6 Mb/s ME default 84, over 30 mins and no drop message appeared. With MMC86 only 2 mins before dropping.

First time ever PC-check now did't report "unsupported"
FM-radio station tuning improved too.

Conclusion: Beware of DX9b !!

Possible conflict with WOMBLE??

March 11 2004, 2:46 PM

I too upgraded. Latest everything. Now WOMBLE is acting-up. No sound - audio totally out of sync after cutting up an mpg clip..... never happened before. WOMBLE is ancient but rock solid!

I will reformat the ol'HD and start from scratch MINUX DX9b.... lets see...

UNINSTALL DX????

March 15 2004, 10:00 PM

I recall DirectX being easy to uninstall - MIND BLANK - I cannot recall how... I tried the obvious (I think). Surfed around. No luck.

Can someone please set me straight? I about to reformat.

I have DX 9b, and womble and everything else are working just fine. I use the Windows XP operating system, and that is completely up to date as well.

I constantly auto update everything from Microsoft.

That doesn't mean that DX 9b isn't causing your problems, but from my perspective the problem doesn't appear universal.
