I've downloaded a movie, ******.mpg, when I try to play it in WMP the screen goes black and no audio, I try Power DVD and the movie starts but it is "jagged". This has not been a problem befor when I've tried to burn movies that behaved the same way as SVCD the movie play perfectly on my dvd, but now when I try to burn Monster.dvdscreener.svcd-flix.cdX.mpg in Nero it sais that the file is invalid, need mpg2 which was encoded for Super Video CD... No Audio, No Video.

If this is a codec problem, I would realy aprisiate if someone could tell me about which codec I need. If it's not a codec problem I will be very happy for all help to solve this problem.

G-Spot

download and install g-spot. open g-spot and scroll to your movie. it should tell you which codecs you need. it is also possible that you downloaded a corrupt file that will never work.

G-Spot does not support mpg files. I've downloaded a different codec and it now works fine in both WMP and Power DVD, so the file is not corrupt, but I can still not burn it with nero as a SVCD.

BitrateViewer

April 17 2004, 2:48 PM

Download BitrateViewer from Tecoltd and analise your mpg-file, wheather or not it is a mpeg-1 or -2 and wheather or not it fullfils the vdcd-, svcd- or dvd-standards.
If not, re-encode it with TMPG or similar software.

Convert it

April 18 2004, 8:53 AM

Even though it may be an mpg, it may not be vcd or svcd compliant, obviously it's not compliant. so convert it to svcd with tmpgenc. Even if it appears compliant, convert it to be sure. I've had to do this to several mpg's.

I've downloaded and converted a couple hundred movies. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, they throw some new curve at you.

I can not convert it Tmpgenc either, so I'm at a complete loss as to what this file is, I can watch it in WMP and PowerDVD, but Nero, Tmpegenc, dvdlab and other software can't "read" the file.

Go to http://www.tecoltd.com and download the free version of the Bit Rate Viewer. Use it to analyze your video and tell us what it sees. It would be helpful to know the following:

any bit rate settings it reports (avg. and maximum are most helpful)
resolution (ie. 352x240, 720x480, etc.) and the number of frames per second.
whether your video is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2.

Have downloaded BitRate Viewer and all it says it "Invalid stream type!"
I don't know what to do next, I've tried to rename from mpg to avi and same thing.
It is a working video file, sinse I can watch it with WMP and PowerDVD, but I can not author or burn it.
It realy irritates me, I hate not knowing how to solve this, so any furter help is much wellcomed

Try this. Get TMPGenc and demux it and feed the video only into the Bit Rate Viewer. You can get TMPGenc at http://www.tmpgenc.net. Sometimes the Bit Rate Viewer chokes on muxed files, but if your file truly is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, it should be able to read a demuxed video stream.

Re: Convert it

Can't demux:"Illegal Mpeg Video Stream."
But I've found out that the resolution is 648X480, I found it by cliking properies in WMP when playing the file.
I know that is not a valid (S)VCD format, but still I should be able to converte and/or demux it in TMPGEnc,or any other editing/authoring prgs., but nooooo.....

I just have to continue with the try and error method:)

It would appear that you do not have MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video if TMPGenc can't demux it. You probably have a DivX, which is MPEG-4. You're going to have to convert this to MPEG-2 before you can make a SVCD out of it.
http://www.dvdrhelp.com has guides on converting video.
