I have a fairly new BOSE 3-2-1 GS system. I have burnt several VCD disks using Nero, and they play back no problem. I have used the same media files (I am usind a windows .wmv file created with PhotoStory III) and burnt them to a SVCD, but they will not play. I get no errors from Nero when I burn the SVCD, and everything appears to burn OK. I have looked through the manuals for the Bose system, bun cannot find any mention of compatibility with either VCS or SVCD formats. What might I try to create a SVCD that will work on my Bose system.
home made disks are iffy at best. some players play only vcd. some players play only svcd. some players play both. some players play neither. same with brands of disk. some work, some don't. in short, thats the facts of life as it pertains to home made disks. so if your vcd and svcd are on the same brand disk and one works and the other don't, thats it. nothing you can do will make another svcd work.
i do suggest that you get a dvd burner and start making them into dvd's. dvdr disks are way down in price these days along with burners. the cost savings in disks alone make it worth it. vcd holds 80 minutes. svcd holds 50 minutes. some movies require up to 4 disks. a dvdr holds a whole movie and costs as much as one cdr.
I am actually using a DVD burner to create the VCD/SVCD disks. I took the SVCD disk I had made and put it in an older Samsung unit I have (DVD/VHS combo unit) and it played great. Retried it in the Bose unit, no luck.
I have tried burning the same .wmv file to a DVD using Nero, and it did create it with no errors, but it wouldn't play in the Bose either. I don't think that I kept the disk, but I will try burning another one and playing it on the Samsung unit.
