Three Lions at 16, thats a lot more than i'd expected like. There was little or no promotion, I dont remember seeing anything anywhere except when I went into shops. It'd be interesting to nsee if sales went up after the argentina game!
However in other ways i continue to despair of the british public - Will's working of light my fire for one (feel jim morrison turn in his grave everty timne you heaqr it), the fact that gareth gates is even in the charts and also Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World only made number 38; there's something wrong with this frickin world!!!
...number 27 was it, or 37, you know I can't remember, didn't really take much notice. Saw the words "Lightning" and "Seeds" together and thought, aaaahhhhhh, any good B sides? (Already had Tilt.)
Sweetest Soul Sensations actually only made the mid 60s, i think it was 64. Lifes too short got to 27. the b sides were ok, but only really remixes. it was really annoying, it took a couple of months before my local Virgin stocked it.
Yeah, I think SSS made 67 or something of the like.
The BSides were rubbish mixes and the closest they got to new tracks was "SWOOSH" a rubbish insturemtnal that sounded like Broudie had fitted it together in 5 minutes.
The seeds need to get back to not only making music (clearly) but putting some effort into B sides too. Mixes just dont cut it and there are some fantastic LS B sides around.
He needs to make the next album as stripped down as possible. Forget that he's a producer and put a glossy sheen on it. He should do what McCartney did for his last album and record, mix and complete it in less than two weeks with most of it being improvised and being one-take stuff. That would be good.
yeah done on an 8 track with analogue tapes etc. Another back to basics approach album I've bought recently is Wheatus. If you can get passed Teenage Dirtbag, there's some good stuff on there. Saw them live a couple of weeks ago and they're better live.
Saw wheatus live a year or so ago in april, they were reallyu good and that persuaded me to buy the album. They recorded that in a strange way too, they were playing it in their basement and then feeding all the audio up to a mixer in their living room through yards and yards of cable!
But yeah, past teenage dirtbag (overplayed but still nto bad) its quite a good album.
Paul Weller's recent acoustic album (i cant remember what is was called, was it Days of Speed?) was great too, I bought that a few months ago and just started liustening nto it again.
Yeah. That's a natty guitar Brendan's got too. The whole album was recorded with that acoustic guitar, fed through various effects boxes to make it sound electric etc. Same with the live shows.
