For lack of anything better to do while I wait for my sister to do........ whatever the hell it is that she actually is doing I thought i'd give my perspective on the anime post further down on the board.
No like anime, turn away now before the ramble begins.
Too late... okay first off, personally i think that definetly not all anime suits all people and yes there is plenty of garbage cutsey, big eyed, over dramatic types out there, but there is also a few that ditch that cliche and move for storyline and action, these are my prefered styles. Among these types for anyone who wants the recommendation there are:
Ghost in the shell: Everyone should see this manga. It's one of those types that you won't get until the second time round. sci-fi type
Patlabor 1+2: Another great storyline, well thought out, with good animation. Neo tokyo setting, with a genius madman looking to cause havoc to the world for biblical reasons.
Cowboy Bebop: I'd only recommend this to people familiar with the series, cause you should know the chars before seeing this movie. Damn good story though. Futuristic setting
Spriggan: Good film. Me thinks it was a tv series though becuse it kinda sticks you straight into the action with lil knowledge for the character, organisations and all that. Still like the theory on Noahs ark -S- present day setting
Ninja Scroll: I'm not even gonna bother explaining this one.. just watch it.
Read or Die: Action, action and plenty of action with story -gasp- Very new manga, i haven't seen one like this in a loooooooong time.... the good kind that is -S- Anyway think of X-men, then port them to manga -beams- present day setting
Princess Mononoke: Ignore the hollywood cast and its actually very good -L- To tell ya the truth, didn't know it was main stars till the credits... heh. Anyway feual china setting which emphaisizes on mother nature... or father nature, i dunno. Good manga -S-
Macross Plus: Good thing bout this one is that you dun have to know anything bout Macross (robotech) to get it, just watch. Sci fi space colonization type. The race for production of a new space fighter, has two old friends go one on one to resolve past issues. Also new to the scene if Macross zero, although at the moment there's only one vid out.
Well those are my most of my best anyways. I prefer films to series because they seem a lot more focussed on whats going on when it comes to manga's. Others i'd recommend are Vampire hunter D/Bloodlust, both good films for any vamp fans; Appleseed, terrorist type; record of lodoss war/tv series, the OAV does well to start it off then the tv series continues the story very well with a few changes; Blood the last Vampire, this will only piss you off when its over, but good non the less.
And finally for those i wouldn't recommend. Neon genesis evangelion, now i know a lot of people like this and so did I.... until i saw the last episode which just made the rest total crap and forced me to delete them off my comp without another thought. Main character is a punk... seriously, if i was 14 and was giving a very large robot type thing... i'd be kicking ass... not crying for every little thing that goes sour...... sorry i was just... really disappointed by that manga. Project A-ko.... trust me... just don't go there; anything that ends in the word city except for cyber city, that's ok. But Monster city, Demon city and Wicked city are no go zones. Oh and urosokidoji or whatever.... god what crap NO STORY WHATSOEVER; Fist of the northstar... maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if the fights were actually good -shrugs-
I'ma end it there, because i'm wondering if anyone has actually read this far??? Anyways all this is just what I think. I'm out. Peace.

Demon City Shinjuku, because frankly, that's an Awesome Movie, Any Anime Fan should see it, but that's my opinion.
Mononoke Hime, Only My Second Favorite Anime, second only to Macross Plus, GO ISAMU!! ARF ARF!! I didn't think High of Ninja Scroll, though It was an excellent Movie, It just didn't click for me...VHD and VHD:B, Excellent movies, Ranking 4th and 6th on my Top Ten Anime List.
But What pisses me off the most about your post (Not really, but I needed emphasis) was you forgot to list the Number 1 Anime, out of 50 (Can't remember what it was ranked this past month,)...
(Description time...hee hee) This Movie, had a fucking AWESOME Soundtrack, Great Voice Cast (Not the best, but still great), Tremendous Action Scenes (In my opinion of course), Set in Neo Tokyo (There is NO better setting for anything than Neo Tokyo), Had a large Back story, with only minor glitches (If memory serves correctly of the actual Manga to Movie crossover).
Did I mention the fact that the Soundtrack was Awesome? Oh well, IT IS!
I rank this Movie #0 on my Top Ten list of Anime (0-9), I give Two Thumbs and Two Big Toes up to the One, The Only
AKIRA Special Limited Capsule Edition.
If you start out with any Anime to watch, Start with Akira, then Mononoke Hime after that Demon City Shinjuku, then you Decide what's next.
AKIRA LIVES!!!!!
Again, this is only my Opinion, and therefore, means more to me than anyone else.
Thank you for your time,

Akira is an amazing manga, even if it is grandpa age compared to the rest. Still i watched Akira for the first time when i was 12... (I thought it was some kind of weird cartoon -shrugs-) and never understood till i was like 15.
Anyways my point is that Akira is a good manga, but doesn't hit my best because you have to listen so much, that you just kinda miss what's going on.... if ya gets me? or maybe it's just me. Eh lets just say it was good enough to set the standard for all the ones to follow -nods-
Only ever saw the Japanese version, but i hear the american dubbing left bits out anyways. Someone told me they were making a hollywood movie of it...... they're gonna mess it up... always do

What isn't good about the fight scenes? One punch kills, turn your back and let the physical reaction to the tsubo strike pop the enemies head clean off. Giants biting ninja's clean in half. Shouting with the voice of everyones favourite fat coconut dad(see the credits -l-)
Fist roX.
Blood, Blood and more blood. And damn does it have have some great one liners.
"Women only want what they have until something better comes along"
It's almost biblical.
You know nothing.

FotNS appreciation society... oh yeah i heard of them... didn't they shut down due to their one and only member not able to keep it up no more??? Imagine bumping into that one member here, small world, heh...
-Backs up before he treads on toes-
I like it that ya stand up for what ya like -beams-.... still that doesn't change the fact that FotNS was to quality... crap. Ok i'll admit that the hundred punch thing resulting in exploding heads was a nice touch (actually it was pretty gory for an old manga -shrugs-) but that doesn't make up for the hash of a story it has. Dude gets his body pierced over and over and over and... over, THEN thrown down some canyon ONLY to get back up a few years later and do the revenge thing.
Dunno, just couldn't get my head around that bull piece of an intro to follow the slow, uninteresting plotline further. And when i did recover to realise what i was watching it was only at the small fight scenes, which only kept me attatched till someones head went sleepy hollow. It was like a signal that the fight was over and the bull was gonna carry on again.
So you can see why i couldn't bring myself to stop from pressing that record button and tape over the damned thing with a very thrilling episode of prisoner cell block H. Only thrilling in the sense that it kept me occupied for a further 10 mins. Still thats 5 minutes more than i was paying attention to FotNS.... hmmm
But like i said before, its only my personal opinion, and like you said my opinions worthless.... criticisms cool though right -S-
Oh yeah and ignore that above message, either my browser of the forum was acting up, my bad.

Considering someone of my intellect, complemented by my verbal versatility as well as my distinct taste in manga, movie genres and music, I am forced to admit one thing;
To this day, nothing, but -nothing- has touched Fist of the North Star. Face/Off, Resovoir Dogs, hell, even Blade, hasn't come near it.
Now, the cynch; I have just come home from Canada (after having one hell of a time - it was f*cking brilliant -- thank you Jennie!) and I got in trouble in customs. Why? Because the bottom half of my luggage was rammed full of DVD's and so it made it look somewhat suspicious. What DVD's? The -entire- FotNS series (minus the Pilot episode, but I have that on a seperate Collector's 4 Part Special Edition anyway).
Needless to say, have been getting Fisted every night ('Fisted' meaning to watch FotNS DVD's). It's classic stuff; Kenshiro punches a guy in the head, then says those immortal words; "You, are already dead." Then BOOM! His head explodes in a shower of claret. I mean, com'on. What other anime has a guy who pokes his thumbs into people's temples, only for a an egg timer to appear in the bottom right-hand corner showing how long they have left before their head explodes?
ATATATATATATATA!!! NORTH STAR HUNDRED CRACK FIST!
Sorry, had to add that. After all the manga I've seen, nothing rivals Fist. I'm an avid fan of Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D and Cyber City Oedo Data 1 and a couple of others, but the mainstream manga doesn't appeal to me.
Mind you, I saw the Fist movie when I was 10. I'm now 22, and I love it even more. It's a vintage series from way back when, so don't criticise the animation. The fight scenes? They're one-of-a-kind. Appreciating them takes a certain finesse, and I shall love being Fisted until the day I die.
Long live Buronson, Tetsuo and Ashida!

p.s. There was my two pence. And a 'Neck-Break Face Killing Punch'.
p.p.s. Wanna see some cool free manga? And no, there are no tentacles, Esa.

Yeah I know this is pretty late into the entries, but since I've seen soooo many anime over the years, I can throw some good ones out there too.
Trigun - Good series, has a futuristic-wild west theme and the action is cool, plus the story and humor are pretty good.
Rurouni Kenshin - Sounds better in japanese and reading the sub-titles...awesome (and long) series. Its samurai-related with political issues and it uses styles, techniques, and such to the point where it almost nears superpower, but doesn't cross that line...pretty much staying within the "believable" aspect.
Inuyasha - another long series that sounds better in Japanese and just read the sub-titles. Deals with demons, great storylines, and can be downright hilarious at times hehe.
Full Metal Panic - alright series based around mechs/robots with piloting...the series is actually a lot better earlier on where the "hero" is somewhat of a dork infiltrating school than the later ones where he's in his field of expertise.
Love Hina - Seems somewhat of a girly-natured anime with the love story theme, but after noticing some odd interest in it by a friend, and watching a couple episodes, it was so hilarious I had to watch the rest LoL
Vandread - Pretty funny and cool series set in the future with spaceships and robots, but with mostly women as the characters in the storyline with few men, but considering its been two planets with seperated genders as societies warring with one another, there's a lot of battle of the sexes stuff that goes on which makes it really funny to watch. The storyline for this series is pretty unique too.
As for Neon Genesis Evangelion, the last episode got its share of "wtf" from me, but still pretty decent I though hehe.
FotN is badass, although I don't watch the ultra-gore fighting stuff much anymore, just gets old real quick. I still need to see the TV series version though.
