What does Robotech's origins have to do with its quality as a product? scratches head.. It is an integral piece of the history of Anime in America. It reached a wide audience and introduced millions of young kids to the idea of animation as a viable, mature entertainment product.
It may have been 3 different shows in Japan, but frankly that's what America could get at the time. It's a damn fine piece of work that stands alone on its own, especially the Macross Saga portion of it. Without Robotech and the few shows that followed after it, Anime in America today would be a vastly different reality - if it even existed as a niche marketplace at all.
It opened the door to acceptance, and without it and other early pioneers, people wouldn't be have the choice to even watch stuff like DBZ, Naruto, and all that on T.V

is how thru the whole series, parn cant fight for the life of him, always charging in and getting wrecked, then at the end, suddenly he doesn't fight like an idiot. lol I still enjoyed it tho' and the only reason I watched it was because Shay always used the pics from it.

Fucking awesome visuals and great back story for the Macross Saga. Although not what I expected.
The combat scenes are top notch animation though, especially the Jet & Valkyrie combat scenes.
Just wish it was dubbed in English...
We haven't gotten anything Macross in years because Harmony Gold has distribution rights for the shit they used for Robotech... which sucks because they could legally challenge another distributer or even the copyright holder for distributing anything Macross state-side.... grrrr

I spent around $215 collecting all 7 sets. Then they came out with the "Remastered" shit, which frankly had shitty 5.1 upmixing.
THEN they came out with the Remastered original stuff, like Macross Saga, and dubbed it using totally different people (what...the...fuck).. Which I guess I can understand since it was the original show they based Robotech on, but still having familiar actors would have been so much better.
