Darkwing and Chas Hawkins (the team leaders for the programmers and artist groups, respectively) have been thrashing that out of late. I think they're going to do a stress test with the parameter that almost all of the textures for a plane will be unique and thus can be painted (without reverse lettering). We've been thinking about just that issue, in other words.
The group's also be comparing polygon counts between our models and those of other sims, to see where we stand right now. Also be discussing how to visually model damage, and all of those nice pieces of eye candy. There's a lot of stuff happening along those lines.
