Ignore this if you want; it's not terribly pertinent

Not for long, though. I just wanted to throw in my $.02 about the darker turn the HP books are taking. Not that I'm contradicting you, Mainecoon/Riven. I'm just stating my opinion.
One of the reasons I love the Potter series is that for being children's author, Rowling's not afraid to do what needs to be done. Actually, many adult authors seem to be reluctant to do what needs to be done, especially if that means killing off characters that need to die in order for the story to progress in a certain direction. Mercedes Lackey, though I love her, seems to be a little fond of Deus ex Machina (the ending of Kerowyn's Tale, anyone?). And considering that Harry Potter's supposed to be a children's series, Rowling's got some guts. I mean, compare the HP books with some of the other things on children's shelves. Although if she continues in this vein, some parents aren't going to want their kids reading this stuff. Not that there aren't plenty of parents already beating their drums and howling for book-banning. **rolls eyes**
But this is the same reason that I loved the ending of Cowboy Bebop and hated the ending of Trigun. The former did what needed to be done, all the way through. The latter did what needed to be done--and then copped out at the ending. **jumps up and down** I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!
Okay, yeah, that was a completely pointless post. I just felt the need to blab for a bit. ^_^;;
