My first big fantasy series addiction, I mean. When I was nine or ten and I was scouring my library's discards section, "Arrows of the Queen" was in the children's books by accident. Gawd, I adored the Valdemar books for ages....I still get the books now, though more out of loyalty than anything else. Though now that she's writing more about Heralds again....(I've had it about up to here with all those bloody Tayledras! No offence to bird lovers....)
How about some of the stuff by Robin McKinley? Never mind, she's pretty obvious. Or maybe...hey, Taulai, you like comics/graphic novels? My advice for fans who want something with that Potter flavor--try Gaiman and Rieber's "Books of Magic". Particularly the latter. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are some interesting parallels between Timothy Hunter and Harry Potter. Enter a world that is very different and yet very similar in a sense to Harry's. Titles are--
Neil Gaiman--
"The Books of Magic"
John Reiber--
"The Books of Magic: Bindings"
"The Books of Magic: Summonings"
"The Books of Magic: Reckonings"
"The Books of Magic: Transformations"
"The Books of Magic: The Girl in the Box"
"The Books of Magic: The Burning Girl"
