For Christmas I got Photoshop Elements - it took me two weeks to finally get around to attempting to figure it out, and this is the product of my first real effort in the area of computer colouration.

Yeah.

(*she goes misty-eyed*) I'd love something like photoshop elements.....I'm so sick of spending weeks on a sketch, inking it, and then flushing it down the proverbial toilet through smeggy colouring.

I ENVY you, Cass!!

Yours is very nice, though...that rather handsome chap seems somewhat familliar ....

And the best thing about Elements . . .

by Cassandra

Is that it only cost about a hundred and fifty bucks! HA! Screw you, Adobe! Why should I spend $1263 or whatever the price amounts to for Photoshop, eh?

(Probably the answer is "Because you want those extra filters, don't you? You do, don't you?")

Gee, I wonder why he looks familiar? **Rocks innocently on her toes.**

I love that book! I will read it a second time... soon. I must admit that I'm running low on Harry Potter-ness, but there is so much to read, I have found! Seriously, I thought I was well-read before I read the Harry Potter books, but those suckers completely catalyzed me to read every book I can get my hands on... well, not every book, but good ones and fantasy and... okay, I'll stop now. Harry Potter the 4th rocks!

Oh I know LOADS of books

by Featherspy

working in a library can turn you into a real biblography. if you like sci-fi/fantasy books with a little bit of cynisicm that you can understand try:

Harry Harrison's (I think the last name is right) Stainless Steel Rat books have alot of space/crime/detective stuff

Terry Pratchett's Discworld books if you haven't heard of them you know NOTHING about British literature

and of course, the Hitch Hiker's Huide to the Galaxy are always funny (I'm just starting Dirk Gently's Holistic detective agency)

if you like slightly..eh, purer books try the Chrestomanci chronicals (I love the Witches of Caprona) by Tabitha Wynne Jones

And also, just go to your library and browse! most of the books I like I just discovered when I was wandering around!!

Actually, I don't think anyone's done this on this board. 'S a good idea, though. May I add?

Remus Lupin: "I'm feeling a little fuzzy today."

Minerva McGonagall: (this must be said while storming into a crowded room) "THIS IS THE LAST STRAW! WHO TOOK MY PORNOGRAPHY?"

Ludo Bagman: "Today's sermon will be a discussion on the vice of gambling."

Sybill Trelawney: "I'm a realist at heart." (Actually, you might catch her saying that. She just might be daft enough.)

Hermione: "Does this colour go with my hair?"

Albus Dumbledore: "... And so it is with great pleasure that I award this year's House Cup and an additional trophy for Most Astounding Points Performance In Five Hundred Years to Slytherin."

Bartemius Crouch Sr: "Make love, not war!"

Severus Snape: "I never told you . . . I'm a flower child."

Voldemort: "Mr Fudge, I have come to tell you that I have had a change of heart. I intend to hand over my wand and do good work in the community redecorating the homes of the elderly."

Minerval McGonagall: "Dude."

Sirius Black: "I have taken my oaths, and I'm moving to the monastery next week."

Colin Creevey: "Wow, Ron, can I take your photograph? And then will you autograph it for me?"

Also, I assumed that the usual 'nothing above PG standard' rule applies for anything we send in (which I have no problems with)...but didn't see any message stating this, per say. Did I just miss it in my hurry to type this... (*grin*) or was there nothing to miss?

That is so cool that it has made $300 million already.
But is that enough to beat the Lord of the Rings? I really don't know it Harry Potter will beat it because I saw the Lord of the Rings and I think it was better well made. Flinches while waiting for people to hit her I'm not saying that the Lord of the Rings is better than Harry Potter, just a better made movie. Columbus, HP and LotR

by

Uh... I'm holding a trashcan lid over my head, because I'm going to disagree here.

I thought Chris Columbus did a great job of the film. I thought it was extremely well adapted. Sorcerer's Stone is more childlike than the later books (they become more dark and more adult as Harry gets older). And making it more adult would have lost us the glorious sense of wonder when we first see magic, brooms, Platform 9-3/4, the Hogwarts Express, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts lovely Hogwarts.

Now that we've been able to marvel like children at all of it, I expect it to change, just as the books do.

As for which film was the better film, I think they are about equal. HP was much more true to the original material. Trust me, I've read LotR pretty much once a year, every year since about 1969. However, they did fantastic things in LotR. I don't have a preference. They are very different films and equally good, in my eyes. In fact, I'm going to see both of them again this weekend.

Funny coincidence... total babble here... in both movies there is a character I dislike in the books (Snape and Boromir) and ended up liking in the movies. Weird.

Having just finished Return of the King for the first time . . .

by Cassandra

I can see why you feel that Harry Potter stayed true to the book better than Lord of the Rings - while reading Lord of the Rings for the first time (this was Sunday before last, you understand), I did realise quickly enough that the director of LoTR did cut quite a lot of the book's scenes out. But he did manage to keep the story flowing, without making it feel chopped and edited. The Fellowship of the Ring is a very long book, and it would have been impossible to transfer all of it to the screen without making a seven-hour-long multi-installment series, like BBC did with Pride and Prejudice.

You already know how I feel about Columbus' job on Harry Potter.

I do, however, agree with you in that Columbus did a good job of keeping the tone of the movie true to that of the book. I was dreading some Disney-esque monstrosity with lots of singing and gooshy sound effects and ridiculous juvenile humour, but I was pleasantly surprised to find no trace of it, expect perhaps in Séamus' frequent mishaps with explosions. The one thing I concede Chris will do well in the following movies (if Jo doesn't come to her senses and sack him, **ducks under a trashbin lid of her own**) is keep their tones realistic, if this first one is any indication.

Boromir was a rather Snapeish character, though not of course in personality. I speak of the way the reader reacts to him. He's quite abrasive, and yet every once in a while he does something that makes us, if not like him, then at least sympathise with him.

And Legolas was cute as hell. And Arwen was annoying as hell. I was hoping all the way through to the end of Return of the King that she'd be messily slaughtered and Aragorn would marry Eowyn. Now there's a nice, sensible lass.

And, uh, I thought Eowyn was equally stupid. Give me my elf. My nice elf, with no canon competition. And I don't think his legions of fangirls count.

....

hmmm...*considers both movies...*

by Keeper of the Time Keys

well, ok, Harry Potter was a good movie, i will give it that. Lord of the Rings was a good movie...cool.

they both had things that were wrong...and i think this is mainly because of the time limit and money. If you gave Peter Jackson and Chris Columbus limitless time and money and no time limit on how long the film had to be....then both movies would have been even better....

Arwen was irritating, she didn't do any of the cool things she did in the movie (rescuing Frodo and raising the flood mainly...though she does get all sappy with aragorn)....just like in Harry Potter I waited and waited and waited for Fred and George and their wonderful lines....but they never came, or how Malfoy was toned down so much...into just an annoyance rather then the kid you wanna kill....

story wise, you can't choose, both are fantastic stories w/wonderful plots and all that...movie wise, both could have been made better...but i can settle for what they had...some of the mistakes where more obvious (and irritating) then others...like Ron going w/harry and hermoine on their detention in the Forest instead of Neville...and how Harry never reads the back of Dumbledore's card...which made everything fall together in the book......oh well, still hope for the next movie...and this is all just my humble opinion anyway....chow!

It's probably just as bad up here in Canada (though I haven't checked the statistics), though of course the overall amount will be considerably less, our dollar being what it is. (**Whack whack whack.** Wake UP, cursed Canadian dollar!)

I agree with you on the subject of Harry Potter vs. Lord of the Rings, Tracy. Harry Potter may have been visually pleasing, but Lord of the Rings managed to stay true to the book without leaving empty scenes and lines scattered wantonly all over the place. It was far more elegantly handled, despite the (SPOIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!) wholly gratuitous, completely unnecessary and positively cloying romance scene between -- [machine gun fire].

Well, you know what I mean, yes? ^_^

I very much hope that JK Rowling (or is it Murray, now?) will have the sense to sack Columbus and get a better director. My vote goes to Lasse Hallstrom, the bloke who did The Shipping News.

couldn't have said it better myself...(*turns and shoves Arwen off the bridge with her shoe and summons Aragorn so he knows it's safe to come out of hiding*)

Harry Potter was visually pleasing..buuuut..LOTR just, to me was more entertaining....it stayed better to the book and besides...it had elves...^__________^..no, anyway..umm....where was i?...oh yeah!!

Columbus could've done a much better job...it's like; when they mess up on stuff like having Hermoine going into the Boys' dorm...because it was to the left..and she went to the left!....and the scene cuts were pretty bad...like from the Dursleys in their house w/all the flying letters, to Oh god!! suddenly they're out on the sea...well, why did they pick that place? hmm, i found myself putting in parts of the book they skipped to fill in holes left in the movie...LOTR didn't do that..you could watch that movie and get basically everything (except maybe why Hobbits don't where my shoes...my mom had to lean over and ask me about that)...i just enjoyed it much more...

and let me get this straight for Christopher Columbus HARRY POTTER HAS GREEN EYES!!! NOT GREEN AND THEN SOMETIMES BLUE, NOT BLUE WHEN TAKING PICTURES...THEY ARE GREEN...*ALL THE TIME*! IT'S NOT LIKE THE BOY WHERES CONTACTS!..i mean, if they can make Madam Hooch have those cool yellow eyes...they can make the main character have green...it ain't that hard...

sighs...ok, that's it for now...

The idea of Snape yelping makes me giggle like a girl.)

'Sides, mature men are much more interesting to drool over. They tend to have gotten most of that sheer annoying youth out of their bones and are capable of acting like rational beings six times out of ten.

Oh well, yeah, Snape may have had presence....but Wood was just cool! And besides...snape was just a pain! he was always being a jerk to everyone...now as far as the mature men go, yes, i agree completely...but not with Snape...now...if you were to say...Aragorn or Legolas, from Lord of the Rings...THEN I could agree with you! But as far as Harry Potter Movie went...**grins at Cass**..everybody in that movie was young...so as a young (turning 16 in March) teenage girl...Wood was very cool...and besides...Snape didn't have that accent....^___^...he just had longer hair...he did look kind of cool at some parts...*buuuut*....i liked wood better...and besides...he's funny in the books! {Wood and his maniac energy}....I DID like how Snape yelped like a girl!!!! Excuse me?

by Cassandra

Excuse me? Are you calling Sirius mature? Are you?

Well, sure, he's sinister, but that doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as mature. Of course, I still get a rush out of seeing a thirty-six-year-old man who's been in prison for twelve years, essentially the cause of his best friends' deaths, with a face like a death mask . . . worrying like a mother hen over his godson. (**Squeal, pinches Sirius' cheeks**)

And as for the schoolboy grudge, he's even worse than Snape. Nah, my theory is that as far as life experience goes, his stopped dead between 1981 and 1993, and resumed as soon as he got out. So nowadays he's still capable of acting like a frat boy. Do you hear me, Sirius? FRAT BOY!

So . . . no. I wouldn't say he's mature at all. Just you wait until Remus comes back into the scene; he'll be nannying Sirius all over the place.

"For god's sake, clean your room!"

"Don't wanna!"

"Clean your room or you don't get any Death Eaters to beat up!"

"Don't wanna!"

NO!!!! That's just wrong!!!! ^______^

by Keeper of the TIme Keys

Frat boy?????? Somehow i can't see Sirius Black running around partying!! HEY!!! Don't dis on Lupin!! I liked him! He was cool!!! He and Sirius were friends! Lupin isn't his mother...hmm, thank god...that'd just be weird.....

Sirius is just loyal to his friends!!! It doesn't sound like he ever got married or anything, and he treats harry like a son, it's not like harry has anyone else really......

oh and then there's Snape::

"I don't like Lupin! He's a werewolf and he didn't play a joke on me...i just thought he did and i don' like 'im!"

"Oh c'mon Severus (says Dumbledore) be reasonable! You're 30-something years old...get over it!!"

"Well, sirius hasn't!"

"If Sirius jumped off a high building...would you?"

"Sirius has a Hippogriff! So yeah!"

".....**Dumbledore shakes his head**.."

Lupin: "Oh good god..." **shakes his head**..."C'mon let's just go see a movie!"

^____________^

i s'pose it could go either way on who has more life expirience, either Snape or Lupin out in the world...or poor Sirius locked in with a bunch of crazy people...who scream in their sleep and then go quiet, shivers (man, what a horrid place)*buuuut*....i still think it's kinda weird....^______^

WHOOPS!

by Molly Featherstone

That'll teach me to come here directly from Animated Lust...I'm also Captain Chaotica, all you newbies. I'm the one who posted the message about how the second movie should not be Hollywooded up and should not have Chris Columbus direct. Er, sorry about the confusion there.

Anyway.

Ka--er, Professor Brinklove so glad to see somebody who totally agrees with me. I mean, I just don't GET actually liking Snape, like, as a _person_, in the books. I used to totally HATE him, he's got this weird undertoned sort of on-your-side-but-grudgingly factor, where he ends up HELPING Harry but acting as nasty about it as possible, that makes him interesting, but otherwise, I always just thought of him as a jerk. In the movie, well...I don't know if I'd say he was SEXY exactly, but Alan Rickman definitely made him cool. Funny, I never really pictured him with long hair like that. My vision of Snape was always rather ordinary and conservative-looking. Does it say he's got hair like that, in the book? I honestly can't remember.
(Quirrel and Oliver Wood are both definitely pretty, though...I suppose I better go for Quirrel as Wood is like barely even legal. :P)

Yup, long hair

by

Long, greasy black hair, to be exact.

Oliver Wood was an instant favorite with me. He's *adorable*, and I don't care if I am robbing the cradle. But I think Rickman is sexy, so I have no perspective on Snape in the film - of course he's sexy, he's Rickman! LOL. I doubt I'll ever like the guy, but he's become very, very interesting in the books. And, of course, there must be some good to him, since Dumbledore trusts him.

The Snape Man.

by Cassandra

As you can see, you're certainly not alone in worshipping/admiring/lusting after our boy Severus. Even I admire him for his accomplished nastiness, though I'm a Sirius fan meself. He's the only truly unfathomable character in the series. Even Harry doesn't reach his level of development.

Oooh, you're just getting into the series? I envy you, I really do. And I take it from your use of the British/Canadian title that you're either a Brit or a Canuck yourself?

Welcome!

by Cassandra

Think they have to have it all their way . . .

Scholastic distributes the first Harry Potter book in the US under the rather ridiculous title of The Sorcerer's Stone (supposedly American children might suffer brain haemhorrages if forced to integrate new ideas too often). They also have changed quite a lot of the text itself around - words like "row" and "sherbet lemon" are changed to, for example, "lemon drop" and "argument". Doesn't make any sense at all, but there you are.

In Canada, however, we get the original British version. **Swells with pride.**

So, we have, so far as I can see . . . four non-Americans - two Brits, one Canuck, and Teja, whom if my memory serves me correctly is from Hong-Kong. Or I may be incredibly wrong.

Tracy: Relax. I'm not anti-American, and neither I am sure is Spinele. Or Kuraki. Or any other non-American who might possibly happen to stop by this board. by Cassandra

(It's true. Have you ever met a Canada goose? Those things are vicious! Take your hand off as soon as look at you. I always say that if we have to be the nicest people in the world, at least our geese are homicidal.)

You can simply send your art as attachment files to the Professor, but I warn you, it's not likely to be seen by anyone else for months on end. It'd be better for all of us if you did the following:

(Er - I'm assuming here that you have very little knowledge of HTML. Bad me. I may be completely wrong, and if I am, please excuse me.)

  • Get an account on some free server. I recommend Geocities, personally.
  • Upload your files to the File Manager.
  • Make one HTML page per file. (All you have to do is hit "New", and it'll take you to an editor with a simple page already constructed. All you need to do then is put < IMG SRC="yourimage.jpg" > between the < body > and < /body> tags.)

  • Link each page here using the tag < A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/yourname/yourimage.html" > and not forgetting to close it with < /a >. Please note that all the little spaces I've thrown in between the "< >" are just to keep the tags visible on this board. Take them out if you want real HTML.

And then we here can see your images. (And we really want to! We don't get much Snape art here!)

I'm a Yank, but...

by Jemima

... I can take some ribbing about it. I do think it's too bad that the American publishers thought that our young readers couldn't handle "Philosopher's Stone." Unfortunately, it was the first book; if they'd released it now, I'm sure they would have kept the original title. As something of an Anglophile, myself, I would have liked to see most of the language of the British edition kept intact (I think we could have figured out "sherbet lemon," and some of the other terms, such as "row," aren't that obscure), although the one thing I can certainly see them wanting to change is jumper/sweater, since in America a jumper is a girl's dress (hee hee, I can just see Harry and Ron cross-dressing in their cute little jumpers!).

Um, I must admit, I don't know who Canada's PM is these days. I do, however, know that there are no seals in Calgary; there is a Stampede, and they had the Winter Olympics there a few years back. Oh, and to answer the unrelated question posted elsewhere: 42.

I'll admit to having had a little difficulty with the "jumper", too.

by Cassandra

Though as I recall, JK Rowling used the word "sweater" a couple of times in conjunction with "jumper". It shouldn't have been too large of a problem ... besides perhaps rousing the more fundamentalist Christian sects to greater rage. I can just see them accusing Rowling of "turning our young people to homosexuality" through mention of "cross-dressing", until Brits the world over very calmly remind them that "Jumper is a British term for 'sweater', and take your heads out of your bums, you silly people."

But of course we have seals in Calgary! They are the ghostly Dust Seals and haunt the prairies at night, squawking and barking until the local farmers run outside with their clubs and yell, "SHADDUP YEW STOOPID VARMINTS, DAGNABBIT!" Every year there is a great hunt to keep their numbers down, a controversial event that has caught the attention of the rest of the Nation from BC to Newfoundland. Protests abound.

Our current PM (Why isn't anyone writing to him about this? The poor guy's trying to play his cards right with this 'war on terror' business, and half of the American population don't even know his name) is Jean Chrétien.

And I'm seventeen, for the record. And I still don't have my driver's licence. (Yeha!)

Oh, But...

by Molly Featherstone

...he looks so FETCHING in that cute little blue chiffon number with matching heels!

Hee...I'm in a silly mood. Oh, by the way...Americans knowing things about Canada. I know something that I'll bet the average American doesn't: There's a good amount of Oriental-related stuff being made over there. Such as, two Jackie Chan movies--Rumble in the Bronx and Shanghai Noon--were both SUPPOSEDLY taking place in America, but were actually filmed in Canada. And when people refer to "the American version of" Sailor Moon or Ranma 1/2, they're wrong; the dubbed versions are made in studios in Vancouver (Ranma 1/2 uses "The Ocean Group", a BIG one which does a lot of other anime series and movies, too) and use mostly Canadian voice-actors. (Listen carefully and you'll hear Tuxedo Mask say "aboot" and Nabiki say something about "our hoose". :P)

There! See? I actually know something semi-obscure about the country. Canada and anime is not a combination of things that MOST average people would instantly think of...but there is definitely a connection there.

Do I get any points for knowing that?

Was there a society which based its admittance of members on a private IQ test? Only people who scored under 50 got in?)

It's funny, but the only Canadians I know who use the word "eh" consistently are from Ontario. And I don't know any who say "aroond aboot the hoose" on any regular basis. Those Eastern bastards. People think they represent the whole country. **Grouse grouse grumble grumble.**

A Sirius Filk song

by Shandethe

Okay, I couldn't resist...I was listening to "One Jump" from the Aladdin soundtrack, and I couldn't resist. Enjoy.

"One Run"

(To be sung by Sirius Black to the tune of "One Jump" from Disney's "Aladdin")

SIRIUS:
Gotta keep
One jump ahead of dementors
One swing ahead of the Aurors
They all think I'm workin' for the Dark Lord
That's insanity!
One jump ahead of ol' Wormtail
That's all, and that's no joke
Believe it or not, I'm just an innocent bloke

DEMENTORS
Riffraff! Killer! Traitor! Take that!

SIRIUS
I think they see through my disguise

DEMENTORS
Let's play a game of Spin the Bottle, guys

SIRIUS
I can take a hint, gotta face the facts
You're my only friend, Buckbeak!

DEMENTORS
Eeek!

SIRIUS' FAN GIRLS
Oh, how sad our Siri's hit the bottom
He's become a one-man rise in crime
We're amazed the Dementors haven't caught him

SIRIUS
Gotta run to live, otherwise I'm dead meat
Tell you all about it when I get some time!
One run ahead of the Dementors
Who want to seal my everlasting doom
I better get the hell outta here soon!
One jump ahead of the Hit Wiz
One step ahead of the flock
Perhaps I'll take a stroll around the block

DEMENTORS
Halt there! Traitor! Horrid! Scandal!

SIRIUS *looks around, realizing he' surrounded*
Heh..please don't be so hasty

FAN GIRLS coming along to save him
Still we think he's rather tasty

SIRIUS
Gotta run to live, otherwise I'm dead meat
Or else we just might get along

DEMENTORS
Wrong!

SIRIUS
One jump ahead of those hood guys
(Traitor!)
Can't afford to sit there like a lump
(Killer!)
One sprint ahead of disaster
(Riffraff!)
They're quick, but I'm much faster
(Take that!)

*gets on Buckbeak, and starts to take off just as the Dementors close in*

SIRIUS
Here goes, oh, don't those guys look mad an'
Wish me happy landin'
All I gotta do is RUN!

Grr....

by

I KNOW!! I have the Playstation game, but they're similar, and I share your pain. I got up to 13 out of 17, then saved my game, thinking I could go back and search after I defeated Voldemort. But then lo and behold - when you load the saved game, all it does is show you the card book, then you close it, then creepy ominous laughter, then it goes back to the title screen. GRRRR!!

A tip I can give you, if you don't know already, is look behind bookcases you can't jump on. Press whatever button you press on the PC to open doors, and the case will open for you to (after a task, usually) get a card. That and look behind sections of wall outside that are lighter or off-colored.
When I learned this tip, I started a new game and searched thoroughly, but I ended up 4 cards short. I'm wondering about the broom closet in the main entrance hall - across the hall from the Great Hall. I don't think I went in there, and I don't know how to unlock it. I'm also wondering if you can pass by Snape somehow, while he's waiting for his sloth brain, and snoop around in the dungeon. I dunno. It's annoying, to say the least. @_@

Ever played Resident Evil?

by

For some reason, I was constantly reminded of Resident Evil (which I was too wimpy to play, btw... I just watched my brother play) when I was playing the game. It's a "first person shooter" kinda game, where you're Harry and you run around... doing stuff. Your "gun" is your wand, and throughout the game you learn four spells total. Your standard spell is a Knockback Jinx, which can do just about anything to stuff you can fire at (little sparklies appear above stuff you can "shoot"). Anything requiring a different spell has a different-colored sparkly above it, and you just aim and cast that spell automatically - nothing hard.

The animation is okay - but I absolutely HATE Hagrid's look. He's this chunk with a pointy head, and his face is flat and on a slant. Everything else is tolerable. You pretty much follow the storyline, and are only allowed to go into certain areas at certain times, after fulfilling various tasks and quests.
An annoying feature is you're sucked into doing something before you know it, so you wanna save often. A less annoying feature is you never really die - you go to Madam Pomfrey; and you have limitless "lives".
Several tasks require at least 2-3 times to run through before you get the hang of it (it did for me, anyway).
Overall, it's a pretty good game, but one I've gotten sick of after playing through it twice. As mentioned above, getting all the wizard cards is difficult. Of course, me being anal-retentive and perfectionist and stuff, I'll prolly keep playing until I find all the damn cards.

I think the game is ok, but it could be harder. The pc game is really easy. You learn about 5 spells or so, but you don't have to do anything special each time you use the spell. I've played the game 3 times and I'm in the middle of the 4th one. I'm a perfectionist too and I can't tell myself to stop playing because I have like 1 more card to find. I won't stop till I find it. Once I find it, I may give the game to someone else. I wonder if they will come out with a 2nd game once the 2nd movie comes out.

Weeeelll....

by Molly Featherstone

In that case, I think I'll either just look at screenshots and reviews of it on the web, or MAYBE buy it if I'm really bored once it's been out for a long time and has gone way down in price. Ya see...I really HATE first-person shooter type games...hate them hate them HATE them. Yes, I know they're popular. Doesn't mean I have to actually like the bloody things. I can never even STEER properly--I keep banging into doorways and such instead of going through them--and I always die, because I can't steer right and can't work out which button is my weapon and which one is the healing potion, WHILE a monster is attacking me...

I gather that Harry Potter would not exactly be like Doom! But you get what I mean. I just don't like that play control style.

I like the THIRD person point of view where you're still close to your character and you BASICALLY see what they see--but you can also see the character itself--like you get in a lot of Dreamcast games. Not only is that easier for me to control, but it's just a more visually interesting camera angle. Sucks me into the game world better...

Anyway, I'll shut up now. Does this have anything to do with anything? No. I just like talking about games. Games games games. I'm like the video/computer-game playing fanatic around here...

It IS like 3rd person...

by

...at least like that description you used. You can see Harry and use a couple buttons to move the camera around. You can also get that "point of view" angle - using the triangle button on PlayStation. HP is more like Spyro, if you ever played that.

So, yeah, it's an okay game - I got it for free, so I'm not complaining. ~_^

Playstation game...

by Spinele Snape

hmmm... yeah... I own the playstation game to! (My friend gave it to me... FREEEE!!!!! ^^) AND I HATE HOW EVERYONE HAS SO MUCH POWER AND YOU HAVE THIS STINKY LITTLE SCAR THINGIE!! Another part I don't get- When you free Headwig... you open the gate thingie... she fly's out... then flys back in and out the other side!! @_@ like wha? why didn't she just fly out the back in the first place? Yeah.... Hagrid doesn't look like he's got a head! (from behind) heheheehe! And Quirrell has too deep of a voice! ^^ But snape looks perfect!

But I really like the game anyway! (especially the part wher you get to chase Malfoy around on broomsticks and whack him when ever you get close! * starts singing *
'Deck Malfoy and I'll be jolly...
falalalala la la la la!'

I always love being reminded of that song...

New Lupin art!

by Shandethe

I'm really proud of this one. It's a pen and ink drawing of a young Remus Lupin, lookin' spiffy in his Hogwarts uniform.

Because Angelfire is a jerk about direct image linking, here's a link to my main fan art index:

http://www.angelfire.com/weird/siriusfansite/siriusfanart.html

It's at the very bottom of the "Canonical Characters" column. Enjoy.

Love that little quirk in the corner of his mouth.

by Cassandra

And hey - Fleur Delacour looks positively slinky! I like the interpretation: it seems to visually capture my own first impression of her, e.g. bash her on the head and kick her down the stairs. Yeah. ~_^

I like the stippling on Remus there, too. Mmm, stippling.

I'm glad you like Remus...yes, I recently discovered the joys of stippling. Okay, so it takes FOREVER...but sometimes it looks good. I'm glad you like Fleur, too...er, my drawing of her, anyway. I am not crazy about the girl myself, and I think she at least warrants a bash on the head for her treatment of Ron!

Bwaa haa haa... Hello, everyone!

by

Hi, I'm new here! AAAAH! A Harry Potter message board!! Coolness. I've read all the books and seen the movie (only once tho, *sigh*). Does anyone else think that Oliver Wood should get a big pat on the back for a good job? I hear he may get more lines next movie.

Question: Did anyone see Lord of the Rings and think that the scene where Frodo wakes up in the elf place and Gandolf is talking to him is like the infirmary scene with Harry and Dumbledore in HPSS? Or is it just me? Hmmm...

I do have to say that my sister and I have made wands. Mine is 9 inches (that is how long it is on the harrypotter.com web site)but 9 inches doesn't seem that long. Anyway.....

Harry Potter-The Movie

by

I didn't feel like writing out the whole name of the movie. So how many times have you all seen the movie so far? 5 times for me, but I think I might be done till it comes out on video. And for all of you that have seen it, did you like it or were you disappointed? I loved it. The only part I didn't like was when they took the whole Dragon part out, but that would add like another 15 min or so to the movie. Anyway, laterz

I wonder if there'll be more potential "director's cut" editions? I mean, if the first film was nearly 4 hours in a "rough draft" form, then imagine how long the others may be, before the cutting room floor... Hmm...

Just got home from Trip 3!

by Jemima Steptoe

I just got home from my 3rd trip. I was going to go yesterday, but they were sold out, so I went to Monsters, Inc. for the fifth time, and bought a ticket to go back to HP today. This will probably be my last trip to either, since my favorite 'plex has moved both movies down to their smaller, non-stadium-seating theatres.

I posted a ton of comments on this a while back, when I first saw it, but I'll hit a few high points again.

I love Rupert Grint as Ron! He is so cute! I just get the biggest kick out of him, and he's terrific in the big chess scene. I enjoyed Hermione a lot, too, and Harry - really, I thought the kids were enjoyable and well cast. Robbie Coltrane was absolutely perfect as Hagrid. I loved Alan Rickman as Snape, although I was very aware of it being Alan Rickman, since I've seen him in several other movies. For a couple of characters who didn't necessarily have a lot to do, I thought Filch and Hooch were great.

My biggest beef is still that I really don't care for Richard Harris as Dumbledore. I wish he'd get mad and quit so they could recast. I also don't think James Potter looked right, but that's just me (my sister really liked him).

LOVE all the Quidditch stuff, and just the atmosphere of Hogwarts, the living paintings, the great hall, just getting the visual references on everything was almost the best part of the movie.

Line that still makes me chuckle: "But, what if he don't like Romania? What if the other dragons are mean to him?" - Hagrid worrying about Norbert

I thought everyone was perfect for the parts. I loved who played Ron, Harry, and Hermione. I thought they were perfect for the parts. I also like who played Dumbledore. I thought he was funny. But I think the two people I was most impressed with was Prof. Snape and Prof. Quirrell. You people might think I'm really weird for saying this but did anyone else think Quirrell was good looking? Sorta anyway? Well I did. I don't know why. And did anyone else notice the weird way Snape moved and talked? Maybe I'm just craking for noticing those things...........

(Blushes, Rubs Toe on Ground...)

by Molly Featherstone

I am SO glad to hear you say that about Quirrell. I thought I was going nuts, I didn't want to admit it, but....he was definitely kinda cute. I just like skinny, delicate-looking guys. He had pretty features, in a weird way. I liked Quirrell (as a character) in the first book--before we found out he was evil, of course--and then when we DID find that out, I was disappointed! Because I WANTED to be allowed to LIKE him, dammit! :P Not because of looks, I mean, just the personality. I AUTOMATICALLY like, sympathise with and side with the pathetic lonely sad little nerd. He reminded me a bit of Simon or Ponder Stibbons from Discworld...

After the Quirrell Incident in the first book, I was kinda on-guard and paranoid about letting myself get attached to or really like any new teacher characters, 'cos I expected there to be something tragically wrong with each one. :P I had to really STRUGGLE to keep myself from getting my hopes up with Lupin...but thank the gods he didn't turn out to be evil or dead. PHEW!

I won't say about Snape (in the movie) because EVERYBODY has already said about Snape.

Actually...I hate to say this...but there was something overall about the movie that bothered me. Not a little detail, like a character who didn't look quite right or a part they cut out for time, but just something fundamental that was all about the whole movie itself, that bugged me. But in the interest of (a) peaceful relations on this board and (b) the fact that I really can't quite DESCRIBE what I mean in words, I'll just drop it there.

I've only seen the movie once, but then again, I saw it _late_, after it'd been out for a while, and I've been busy. I do plan to at least rent if not buy it once it comes out on tape, though.

Quirrell

by

Thanks for agreeing with me on thinking Quirrell is good-looking in a weird way. I seem to side and sympathize with the weirdos. Believe me, I do. I liked Quirrell in the movie. I was impressed with the actor. What is everyone else's thoughts on Snape? You know what I thought? I thought he was perfect for it. In fact, I was so impressed with Snape in the movie that he is one of my favorite characters in the movie. Him and Quirrell. Not that I think Snape is good-looking. Just had to make that clear.

Quirrell... good looking?

by Spinele Snape

I woulden't know, cuz i'm a guy, but.... I asked around to all the girls I know, I held up a picture of Quirrel's actor(Ian Heart), they all went lop sided(with the exception of a few) now, there are lip stick marks all over the picture of him. -_-

Does that answer your Question?

Yes, Snape was played REALLY good. (Thats probably because Alan Rickman is a really good actor!!)

...although I have NEVER actually kissed a photograph in my life, that's just so....not me. (Giggly, trendy, teenagery, bubbleheaded, "what teenage girls are expected to act like" are all phrases I could use, but none of them quite WORK in the sentence. I'm NOT a teenager. But even when I was, I...._wasn't._)

But he is kinda cute.

Snape? Well, Alan Rickman is a great actor and he looked cool with the long straggly black hair, but I wouldn't say I was drooling. And, because it was Alan Rickman, he was far more....well, not LIKEABLE exactly, but more......_cool_ in the movie than in the books. In the books, I never really thought much about how he looks at all, I just thought of him as a slimy devious unfair jerk.
An INTERESTING jerk. But a jerk. (I can't really ever sympathise with or like anybody who's racist or predjudiced or thinks he's "better" than other people. I'm predjudiced against predjudiced people. That's also why I could never EVER like any of the Malfoys.)

Anybody here ever play Final Fantasy 8? I just say this because Draco Malfoy SEVERELY reminded me of a kid version of Seifer Almasy...........or maybe I'm just weird. But I swear they're SO much alike.

(Shoving a stick up your nose? Oh, my! I haven't actually "played a movie" very often, but the worst I can think of is accidentally whacking someone over the head with a "light saber" (aka "stick") while playing Star Wars with my brother...)

For the fourth movie, I think they should do a TV-miniseries! No, that wouldn't be as high-profile as a big huge fat-budget movie and wouldn't get "butts in the seats", BUT, it would allow them to tell the whole story, or much closer to it anyway, and to do so in manageable chunks rather than one sitting. So, say, the ENTIRE miniseries could turn out to be four or even six hours; but since you see it in, say, one hour installments each, it wouldn't FEEL that long, and the poor moviegoers wouldn't be forced to sit through a four-hour solid movie.

To do it as a normal movie, even one the length of The Sorcorer's Stone, they would have to cut out SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. I'd really rather have the miniseries. Even if it's quieter and lower budget and doesn't make as big of a splash in the headlines, I'd really rather have the miniseries.

Two of the Discworld books were done as cartoon miniseries, and I think that formatting (not the cartoon, but the "chapter" effect) REALLY helped. They were able to stay very true to the original story and cut very little out, and you weren't exhausted by trying to watch it all at once. And I LIKED the low-budget British feel of it. It was more appropriate. It was..._quieter_. I wish the Harry Potter movie had been a bit less loud and flashy...more seriously presented.

Sorry, I really went off there, didn't I? Shutting up now...

What they're gonna do...

by

... is divide it into two parts - the first comes out around Thanksgiving, and the second'll come out around Christmas. That way the 4-6 hour movie will be cut down into 2 managable chunks. I've read from several articles saying that this is most likely what they're (meaning WB and Columbus and Kloves and whoever else) planning. I hope they put it ALL on one dvd, though. That'd be so dumb if they sold it as Goblet of Fire Part 1 and Part 2. Ugh. I hope that they even put it on one single disc, instead of, like, two discs in the same package. It'd be annoying switching halfway through to the next disc - even with a carousel player. @_@

You know what *I'm* hoping for, besides GoF on one dvd, is that they skip a year between Azkaban and Goblet. Like, supposedly PoA is coming out in 2003, right? So skip 2004 and show Goblet in 2005, while all the while working on Order of the Phoenix. Why? 'Cause Goblet has SO many scenes requiring a HELL of a lotta CG effects. I'm hoping they slow down and take two years on it to make nice CG scenes, instead of releasing it quickly with so-so CG (kinda like the first movie - eh? ~_^)
Then to keep up with the growing child actors, film Order of the Phoenix in 2004, and work on that for a couple of years. This'd actually work out for the last three movies - getting two years for development, instead of just one, on what's most likely going to be hard films to shoot and edit - as dark as they're supposedly gonna be...

Anyone else think that Harry Potter's gonna eventually hit the PG-13 mark? **raises hand**

Yep.

by Molly Featherstone

Considering the rising darkness and increasingl bloodier violence, not to mention awakening hormones? YEP. Definitely...

But please, PLEASE, not Christopher Columbus for all the movies! The Sorcorer's Stone stayed close to the book plot-wise, and the characters all looked and acted beautifully, wonderfully right, but the whole movie just had this WRONG feel to it with the pacing! It was too fast, too loud, too bright, too cutesy! It was KIDDIE!! I know these are kids books but they don't feel like kid's books when you're reading them and I would much rather NOT feel like I was watching something made by Nickelodeon or Disney!!

And since everything ELSE was fine, it's gotta be the director's fault. He's the one in charge of tone and mood. And it was just too...KIDDIE.

(Waits to get hit by everyone)...

Anyway, PLEASE let's get a different director, and do a more toned-down, serious, British feel. I DON'T want a loud happy special-effects laden Disney blockbuster, I want it to FEEL like the actual books, as well as look like it.
Especially on the later chapters. I don't want to have my ears blared out by loud, perky, chipper! music while Harry's facing Death-Eaters or Dementors...
MANY scenes in the first movie would have been much improved by making the music way, way quieter, or getting rid of it entirely. The sneaking around in the dungeon scene, for the best example. Hearing nothing but the pad of their shoes in the empty, echoing darkness, and the occasional sound from the shadows that makes you go, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" would have been far more ominous.

Okay, I've said what it was that I didn't like and EXTREMELY didn't like about the Harry Potter movie. Something that nobody else ever complained about, so I assume nobody agrees with me. So go ahead, beat me up now, get it out of your system...

No. 2 for me.

by Cassandra

(Just got back from it last night.)

I think the movie as a whole improves on closer inspection, but I still have a few standing quibbles. Paramount among them is the fact that Richard Harris as Dumbledore still comes across as a feeble old man in need of his protein drink. This becomes particularly painful if you've seen Lord of the Rings and can compare him with Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

The acting in places is still lackluster (particularly on Daniel Radcliffe's part - time and time again I saw him simply standing there, reacting to the gravest of circumstances by moving only his head), and I very very much hope that Chris Columbus will be given the boot. He's a terrible director.

There really are only a few minor characters with whom I didn't have any quibbles at all: Madam Hooch, Vernon Dursley, Mr Ollivander, Oliver Wood, and, most especially, Filch. Gawd, I loved Filch. "Time was detention'd find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons . . . God, I miss the screaming . . ." Heh heh heh.

This is Cassandra, coming in a week late.

Break Out the Shrinking Eggnog and Dress the Poltergeists in Red and Green!

by Molly Featherstone

Well, it's that time of year at Hogwarts, Christmas or Yuletide or whatever you wanna call it, and I have an idea for something silly we can all do for fun. I confess I got this idea from another messageboard I was at, and that, in turn, the idea wasn't terribly original THERE.

But it's always _fun_, which may explain why the idea is so popular!

I'm talking about:

Writing parody Christmas carols!

In this case, I mean Christmas carol parodies organsed along a _theme_, and of course the specific theme around here should be the Harry Potter universe.

I have NO idea how to do this as I'm not really enough of a Harry Potter fan to have things memorised. I just came up with the idea because of the "Hogswatch Challenge" over at the Unseen University messageboard--where the head of the whole site got MY song stuck in his head and sang it out loud at the mall! (Getting some very funny looks as you might imagine. ;)) I had success over there so I don't mind if I fall on my butt here. YOU guys have fun with it. I just wanted to get the ball rolling and introduce the idea. (Oh, and if for any unlikely reason anybody wants to see my Discworld Christmas carols, just ask. I only did two.)

I just wanted to stir up a bit of fun, though. Pardon me if this has already been done (to death, most likely).

There! I apologise if I accidentally stole anybody else's exact lyrics, I haven't been here very long. I also haven't been a Harry Potter fan very long! I'm not sure if there are white ash trees, it just sounded good and "occult"...and Five Golden Snitches doesn't EXACTLY fit the tune but it's the most OBVIOUS golden thing I could think of in the HP universe!

Shutting up now...

That's good! Let me try...

by Jemima Steptoe

Well, I thought of a beginning, but I don't know what the rest of the song would be, so anyone feel free to finish it:

"You know Arthur and Molly and Bi-ill and Charlie,
Percy, and Fre-ed and Geo-orge and Ginny,
But do you recall the most famous Weasley of all...
Ronnie, the Red-haired Weasley - um, ladedadedadeda"
(feel free to chime in here)

I can think of some first lines and things, but I'm not getting much farther. Of course, it is 6 am.

Hmm, maybe I'll come back with something later.

Yeah, I especially liked "Deck Malfoy and I'LL be jolly." :P Me too. Which Malfoy? I'd be doubly jolly if it was father AND son we get to "deck"...
I'm getting in line behind you.

Or we could just turn him into a ferret and bounce him down the stairs again (evil grin.) Most entertaining, that was.

And of course PRESENTS yeah.

I know it's kinda late, but here's another one...

by Spinele Snape

Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh...
Snape is right beside you, growling all the way...
Hagrid's getting drunk, he thinks it is good fun...
Yelling out songs, louder every time **sigh**
Oh I'm glad I'm not his son!
Ohhhhhhhhhh...
Jingle bells, Jingle bells, a jingle from the room...
Oh what fun it is to ride, on a nimbus two thousand broom...
Jingle bells, Jingle bells, a jingle from the room...
Oh what fun it is to ride, on a nimbus two thousand broom...

Quirrell is kinda weird, but girls think he's cute...
he stutters quite a bit, and wears these funky boots...
he wears a turban around his head, people this it's for hat hair.. But it's to hide the Dark Lord instead!
Ohhhhhhhhh
Jingle bells, Jingle bells, a jingle from the room...
Oh what fun it is to ride, on a nimbus two thousand broom...
Jingle bells, Jingle bells, a jingle from the room...
Oh what fun it is to ride, on a nimbus two thousand broom... ON.. A... NIMBUS... TWO THOUSAND... BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!

I know, it's weird.

MY Christmas Songs are the weird ones. Do you wanna know what _I've_ done with "Jingle Bells" in the past?

"Crashing through the snow,
With an avalanche at my back,
Through the trees we go,
Into the rocks we smack!"

--Describing how I "play" the snowboarding part in Sonic Adventure. :P (I literally DO crash into EVERYTHING, but it's still fun.)

Or then there was my "furry romance" version of Winter Wonderland, where the chorus was "Walkin' 'round with nothin' on but fur"... :P

Then there's the Discworldian Jingle Bells, with Rincewind running for his life and saying he thinks he's going to die, and then there was the Twelve Days of HOGSWATCH...(What other happy holiday song would actually have lines like "Ten assassins inhuming"...)

Trust me, you ain't nuts when it comes to songs, I am!

Anyway, I liked yours! I thought it was funny! I liked the Nimbus 2000 dealie.

Hey everyone. I have a question about this part of this web site. You know how this is a rpg? Well do we pretend we are at Hogwarts or whatever and pretend we are doing things or do we just talk about whatever? Or perhaps both?

Okay...

by Therèse Calleron

First, the easy one. A spoiler is when you reveal something that someone will not know if they haven't read a certain book. You see, this "spoils" the book for them. Get it?

And this board is not an RPG. The RPG board is linked at the top of this one, and is quite formal compared to what you may be used to. The two oh-so-friendly GMs (An Chin and Cassandra Ravenwood) control the plot, and other people post messages moving the story along. Think of it as one of those things where everyone has one minute to tell a part of the story, only you can only tell the part that happens to your character(s).

Whee. Hope that was helpful.

Quirrell's first name

by Shandethe

Well, now we know it for sure! It's now listed on the Internet Movie Database. It's Slatero.

blank stare Yeah. That was my reaction, too. Xiomara Hooch sounds cool...but Slatero Quirrell? It makes me think of Slater from "Saved By The Bell."

Oh well. At least it wasn't Screechtero.

Where do they get this stuff?

by Jemima

I dunno, I'm not too sure about this... IMDB lets folk like you and me submit information for their site. Who knows where some of this is coming from. In fact, I just skipped over to the HP Lexicon, which seems to be a pretty reliable source of info. According to them, the HP Trading Card game says Madam Hooch's first name is Rolanda, although they don't take that as official (this is the same place that said that Flitwick's name is Filius in the Trading Card Game, and they don't consider that official, either). They don't have a name, Trading Card or otherwise, for Quirrell.

I have to say, "Screechtero" made me laugh.

Names for Hooch & Quirrell

by Jemima

Why do I think JKR would tell us Hooch's name is something like "Hildegarde"? Someone pointed out the fact that Minerva McGonagall, Poppy Pomfrey, and Severus Snape have matching initials (MM, PP, SS), and that the proposed "Filius Flitwick" fits that pattern, too. With that in mind, if I had to come up with my own given names for them, I think I might go with something like Hespera (accent on the first syllable) for Hooch, and Quilvio (pron. KIL-vee-oh) for Quirrell. I'm still trying to think of a first name for Professor Sprout - I'd like to go with an S name, and have it be a flower or plant name.

You know, after she's finished with Book 7, I really think JKR owes us a "fill in the blanks" book with given names for any characters who haven't had them yet, etc.

Hmmm...Names...

by Molly Featherstone

I like names. (Grins maniacally). Names are fun! When I'm writing a story, or making up a character, I'll spend a long time going all through my book of names. I like names. Names names names.

Ahem. Where was I?

Ah, yes. Well, using the "matching initial" thing, here are some ideas:

Sassafras Sprout? (hee!) Summer Sprout? Or going away from plants/nature...Samantha Sprout. I like that one. Don't know why. For Hooch I like Rolanda better than Xiomara, just...feel-wise, rhythm-wise. It seems more...._plausible_ for the Harry Potter style, somehow. But for same initials...Hmmm...Hildegarde Hooch is good. I'm looking through my nearest name book, (hey! just found out what "Hedwig" means) and I'm seeing some nice sold traditional English-y sounding names--Harriet Hooch...Heloise Hooch...Hortense Hooch. Those all work. Not every name has to be five syllables and Greek, Latin or German. :P

Quirrel...and am I the only person here who actually kind of LIKED him, and was upset when he turned out to be the bad guy, and DIDN'T want him to die...? or does anybody else agree with me there...? I'm thinking something like Quincy, Quentin or Quimby...I think Quentin Quirrel would work rather well. Ooh! Ooh! Wait! Quigley! Yeah, that's it. Quigley Quirrel. Hee hee!

Okay, I'll shut up now...I wish I could think of more plants that begin with "S", you'd think it would be easy but NOTHING is coming to my mind. :P However, that's probably because "Sassafras Sprout" is making me laugh too hard to think properly... :P

That would be cool if JKR did write a book with a list of names in it. I love the names she has chosen in her books. They are different from what I'm used to, but they are the coolest. I love Quirrel's last name. (Is that how you spell it?) I think it sounds cool. Anyway, this is cool.

Hee!

by Molly Featherstone

Glad you liked that. Quigley is a real name, by the way. For some reason it just automatically strikes me as prissy-sounding. I was reading this other book out loud to my brother--the first of the "Myth" books by Robert Asprin in case anybody has heard of those--and the instant the character named Quigley (yes there is one in that series) showed up I instinctively went into a high-pitched, snooty, prissy, girly, twittery uppah-clahss British accent for him, for NO REASON! The book didn't say anything about that. His dialouge and slang seemed American enough. I just did the accent because of his name...
Which turned out to be a bit confusing when we met up with "Chumley" the Troll later on in the same series and he WAS written to be an uppah-clahss Brit! But enough of that diversion...

As for Quirrel's last name, I didn't know how to spell it at first. You see, I had these books read out loud to me rather than reading them myself, so I just HEARD the names rather than read them and not only did I guess the spellings wrong, I had a really long time to get deeply attached to my WRONG spellings. :P It took me the longest time to break myself of habits like "Malfoi", "Griffindor" and "McGonagle" for example.
I used to think Quirrel's last name was spelled "Quirl" but that could be because I was thinking of the Discworld city "Quirm". I STILL see Quirrel's name spelled all compact and minimalist in my mind. Ah, well.

Did this post have a point? Um, not really. :P

Duh...

by Molly Featherstone

I figured THAT out a LONG time ago. I mean, without having the slightest idea of his first name, not even an initial. Some character's names are very obviously meant to sound like the kind of animal they resemble. Such as "Snape" sounds like SNAKE and he's in Slytherin and Quirrel is really nervous and jittery and seems "harmless" and "fluffy"...SQUIRREL, DUH!!

:P

Also like Sprout being the Herbology teacher and Madame Trelawney's first name being Sybil...I mean, like, DUH, there's just puns in the names all over the place. :P

Not that that's a BAD thing, mind you.

David Copperfield on PBS

by Jemima

Yes, PBS is running the Daniel Radcliffe version of "David Copperfield" as part of Masterpiece Theatre - I'm glad you brought it up; I'd forgotten! Also starring Maggie Smith (Prof. McGonagall), who is terrific as Aunt Betsey and Zoe Wanamaker (Madam Hooch) as nasty Jane Murdstone. Bob Hoskins is a great Micawber; I am increasingly convinced he'd be a good Cornelius Fudge, everyone see what you think. And one of my fave actresses, Imelda Staunton, whom I wanted for Mrs. Weasley, is Mrs. Micawber. Anyway, highly recommended show.

I was just at the Internet Movie Database, and I discovered a couple if interesting facts. Let's see what you all make of this.

--Richard Bremmer, the actor who voices Voldemort, is credited as "He Who Must Not Be Named". Cute, no? Ian Hart is credited twice, as Quirrell and as Lord Voldemort. Hm....a good excuse to go back and see the movie!

--Madam Hooch's first name is Xiomara. (To all of you whose reply was "Xio-what?"...yeah, that was my reaction, too. Cool name, though.)
