I don't think that Jones was the first to invoke the name of Hogan in his teaching, probably close though. I think that he was being honest in his assessment and just mentioning Hogan's swing in an anecdotal fashion. It is a small part of the book.
As for the principal of STC, it would be nice to see some video of Jones and his students to see exactly what kind of results that he got. It is obvious from reading the book that he did not intend to teach a different kind of swing. He felt that he had a superior method of teaching the one correct golf swing.
