Whatever Ty has built on Moe's quote is at least matched by what you're building on Moe's friendship with Bertholy. He's known Shankland for the past several years, but does that imply that Shankland's ideas have influenced Moe's swing? According to Shankland, Moe started hanging around because he respected his teaching. I'd guess that he'd hang around de la Torre if he spent time in the upper mid-West, or Ernest Jones if he had the chance - maybe even Jack K. if Chazman would put him up in Arizona.
The fact that Moe hung around with Bertholy may mean something, or it may not. From the excerpts I've seen, it certainly wasn't because of Bertholy's writing style. He may be a great teacher, but I can see why Moe used the book for bed-time reading.
