I've kept mentioning various paradoxes hoping to 'wake you up'.
The Bertholy concept of 'retaining' is something I came accross independetly that I called 'levering'. It grew out of a frustration with not being able to get the 'pro' look frame by frame so I just decide to try maximum force pulling in with my trail arm to prevent loosing the angle and that I would not release at all. While I've since met my benchmark with other techniques I've never been able to old the angle as much and as long as with 'levering'.
Bertholy is more explicit than I've been about 'the point' you need to swing to before release. I have not gotten to the part of the book that explains release so I can't say how his methodology would effect inertial pushing. His advice about the speed of the downswing is however perfectly consistent with my little test to aid stopping at the point and inertial pushing.
In the same way that Moe seems to be able to reconcile Bertholy and Jones (and I think I know how), I hope to reconcile my biomechanically correct ideas with Bertholy to hopefully get a pro feel but still without needing pro talent.
