Response to The Bertholy Method ( II )

Next the emphasis after the correct Direction-Switch has been made is placed on increasing the cocking of the wrists at the very outset of the downswing. At this critical stage of development, a mirror used indoors on sunless days while observing the wrists cocking even more, or if not this ultimate, at least the elimination of the premature uncocking of the wrists. Checkpoints:

Make sure the tip of the Swing Pipe or the head of the club remains left of the Golfer's head as the right hand drops down 12 inches from the lower body lead and the tugging action in the left arm. Note: Try to achieve an increase in the angle of left arm and shaft of Swing Pipe, Straining hard, try to make the angle more acute. When you can do this both in training and while playing, you have achieved the Master Movement! This project will not take less than six months.

Next try to keep this most acute angle until you left hand has passed the ball position; all the while you have still maintained your hands in the separated positions. Now once your left hand passes the ball position, the moment has arrived for you to release your right hand completely from the shaft. Now, allow the Swing Pipe to swing forward in an extended position with your left hand only holding the Pipe. The tip of the Pipe will point to the target area or slightly to the right, while the left arm has spun counter-clockwise for a draw or into a vertical left hand position (left thumb if raised would be pointing skyward) for the straight shot. The combination of the left arm and Swing Pipe will form an unbroken line extending to target in a horizontal position at the finish of this conditioning position.

If you are working with a golf club out-of-doors, you will dig mud after the half buried ball on target line. You will cut a nice long thin divot beyond the ball position. As your left hand passed the ball every effort is made to still contain the acute angle of the shaft, keeping the angle as acute as is possible. Try to have the shaft in a vertical position before releasing the right hand. Now, at this critical moment, keep the left arm and hand working down into the ground after the ball. Do the entire act at one-tenth speed until proficiency developes - then increase the speed to about one-half swing speed, making certain that the post-ball position divot is taken. Note: Do not hit the ball. Just miss the ball each time while carrying the club through to target, cutting a divot on the target line.
