The part about the club head appearing to the left of the golfers head is critical but does infer that the club is roughly horizontal at the top. Unfortunately to conserve space most of the DG clips have frames missing at this point but if you look at the
Hogan Clip or the
Nicklaus Clip you can see that the first move of the arms is the trail elbow down but with no release of wrist cock. This effectively keeps the club head on the left side of the golfers head. It also results ia an interesting 'effect' I've noticed with many tour pros that have the shaft near or below the top of their head at the top of their backswing - that is that the shaft never goes above their heads. Instead the club will move to their trail side and carve an arc close to their trail shoulder but it does not go higher (release of wrist cock). You can see this even after a backswing as long as John Daley's.
The result is the wrist angle is retained and the club makes a very small arc near the body on the downswing until 6/100s after which the club releases with the effect that the club head travels a much greater distance in the last instant of the swing. A classic flail effect.
