Response to The Bertholy Method ( II )

Two of the greatest Golfers who ever lived, Gary Player and Ben Hogan, both of whom played at under 150 punds, could hit the ball a long way and significantly both of these super-stars used "FLYWHEEL ACTION" in their Golfswings to a remarkable degree.

In the accompanying pictures, you will see dramatic use of this "FLYWHEEL ACTION" by both of these outstanding individuals...

To achieve this, these remarkable men make what I call the "Vertical Drop", and then once this has been done, the "HORIZONTAL TUG OF THE LEFT ARM", was accompanied by lower body leverage and spinning.

Now let us deal with what constitutes the "FLYWHEEL" of the Golfswing: It is composed of what I refer to as the "Keystone" and the Upper Torso of ones body. The "Keystone" position is composed of a fixed left arm, the right arm bent at the elbow and folded into the body, secure Golf grip, the golf club, with the club shaft forming a right angle with the left arm, or even a more acute angle. This "Keystone" may be formed at any time after the first, second, or third foot of the takeaway, or even very late all the way up at the very top of the backswing. One can make it early as Hubie Green does, or wait till the very last moment as Jack Nicklaus does, but make it you must for the downswing so that you can have "FLYWHEEL ACTION" during the "FLYWHEEL ACTION ZONE" of the Golfswing, that is, as in Gary Player's action sequence.... Hogan may be seen doing the same in his sequence photos...

So to utilize this 'FLYWHEEL ACTION", our golfer must condition himself to the "VERTICAL DROP OF THE KEYSTONE" from the top of the backswing. This movement I call the "MASTER MOVEMENT". This is the action in the Player Pictures... In the hogan pictures it is...

This is the position one must achieve if one is to gain the nth degree of club head speed, from Flywheel Kinetic Energy, the maximum efficiency of each individuals potential. To do less is to lessen the ratio of one's size and physical strength to his optimum. To develop the "FLYWHEEL ACTION" is to excel over men of equal size and strength and to even out perform upon many occaisions men of far greater size and strength, who do not use the Kinetic Energy of "FLYWHEEL ACTION". Now once we have made this remarkable "MASTER MOVEMENT" the "VERTICAL DROP OF THE KEYSTONE POSITION", and we have achieved the "MASTER POSITION" we have set up the conditions for the fantastic "FLYWHEEL ACTION"....

........

As it is with many things, the transportation vehicle Flywheel has one serious drawback. Upon rare occaision when metal fatigue occurs, the Flywheel flys apart. It flys apart with an explosive force equal to that of a bomb. But, this inherent danger in the Flywheel for propelling vehicles is the very sweetest kind of essence for the smooth powerful Golfswing. It is the very quality we as Golfers are seeking. An explosive force. An explosive force at impact, explosive, without undue effort.

We learn to make the "KEYSTONE POSITION'. This combined with the upper torso, forms our Golfers "Flywheel". This "Flywheel" is maintained throughout the downswing until the left hand is in the "impact area". Here in the "impact area", just as the transportation vehicle's Flywheel upon occaision has been known to fly apart with explosive force, a wonderous automatic action occurs for our super-star Golfer, out Golfer's "Flywheel" rips the clubhead into the golf ball with incredible velocity. Hence we witness a smooth swinging Golfer hitting the golf ball distances that are so great in relationship to the seemingly effortless swing that he employs, we observers cannot quite equate in our minds the distance and accuracy our super-star Golfer is achieving with his seemingly effortless swing.

Well, there you have it. This is undeniably one of the key factors one must develop to reach one's potential. Thus the "easy" swing and the remarkable clubhead speed of the super-star Golfer through the "MASTER PATH" generated by the explosive force of the Golfswing "Flywheel" becomes crystal clear.
