Response to The Bertholy Method ( III )

has a couple of things I think will be interesting for people following the Bertholy posts.

It starts with the cover photo of John Daley at impact. His trail arm forming an almost perfect 'Claw' per the Bertholy photos with his trail elbow firmly at his side and his trail arm bent at the elbow. In the drills where the trail had releases the lub the trail hand stays at the trail side bent at the wrist as John's is at impact.

In addition a different shot of John coming into impact in the magazine shows that he has a minimal grip on the club at that point with his trail hand. His thumb, index and second fingers are all clearly open. The 'Claw' is not completely released but this was a suprise for me in a real swing.

In addition there is a photo foldout of Sergio. Jim McLean does an intro where he applauds some changes Sergio has made because in his opinion Sergio sustained to much angle too long before and his hands were too far ahead at impact. So what you see in these photos is Sergio 'releasing early' so to speak. At least compared to what he did before.

The 'retention' function of the trail arm can be seen in the incredibly acute angle between Sergio's lead arm and the club when his lead arm is just below horizontal in the downswing. The characteristic I see in video of swings with this level of retention is how close the club stays to the trail shoulder from the top to this position.
