Response to Mapping

It's the "reality" vs. "feel" debate. But IMHO, the people who are not doing what they're feeling are not really feeling. In my experience, most golfers can't tell you what they feel. They're not attuned at all to feel. Sometimes the good ones will know that they feel the same on every swing, but they can't explain specifically what they're doing. Some might know what they're doing at the top of the backswing, but after that it's usually all a big blur. A downswing full of blindspots. They've been sucked in by the popularity of mechanical teachers and that's all they practice. The reason golf magazine tips by McLean and others don't work is because they don't teach feedback. The correct positions are right there in the magazine. They're not hard to do. You don't have to be a contortionist or anything. I look up and down the range at all these people checking their "correct" positions ... then they swing :(. What's the problem? They're missing the foundation. They can't feel what they're doing to match the positions they know are correct when they put it into motion. The so-called gurus haven't given them a clue as to how to tune into that feel. Mechanical adjustment w/o feedback is useless. You can't repeat it if you can't feel it. The feel has to come first before you can consistently apply the mechanics. If you reach the level of feel that Gallwey talks about, and it's not hard, your feel and reality will match.

I think Gallwey's right on the money.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
