Bertholy has the
String-Ball to give you the 'feel' for a correct golf swing. While this device, the
Kinesthetic Procedure and the
Golden Excercise are very clear but I had problems 'translating' the feelings into a real golf swing. The problem is that I was trying to translate. Don't. Not only the 'feel' but the action you take to do the drills is identical (except for letting go with your trail hand).
I will post more later about what I think is happening biomechanically, but the feel of a good shot is exactly per the drills - you keep your trail hand out of the shot. I phrase it that way because when playing I began to have problems with pull/hooks and too high trajectory. I then remembered a statement by Bobby Jones about hooking the ball whenever he let his right hand get too much into the swing. He then said that though it should be involved 'at the right time' he found it better to completely forget about it.
Focusing more on a Golden Drill motion for my lead arm and attempting to LEAVE my trail arm in the 'Claw' position restored my ability to follow through towards the target ('Rifle Barrel') instead of rotating past. In addition my low trajectory and distance (indicating hands ahead again) returned. My ability to do this and the resulting motion is HUGELY affected by PT (Proper Tempo). Also more on that later.
BTW - I've mentioned it before but don't forget that the ball position will need to be further forward if you are successful in holding the angle longer and getting to a proper impact position. If you don't you will get a push/slice. In my case driver needed to be about 4" further forward than was my norm. I forgot at the cost of a couple of balls. If your ball position is centered like many holding the angle will produce a SERIOUS 'shank like' effect causing you to immediatly want to 'correct' the bad thing you did.
