Just before impact, the clubhead is slightly ahead of the shaft with the shaft bowed away from the target. You just have to make sure the image you select is slightly before actual contact with the ball (ie. the ball should be focussed, not a blur).
Due to the impact collision, the clubhead slows down and the clubhead will, as you say, "lag". However, this is due to the external force from the ball collision.
