Response to Artifacts

Peter, I've started a new thread for this discussion. Let's assume that the clubhead "lead" is there. (which, BTW, I think is true) What causes it?

My argument was that you can't take a distorted picture like that of Nicklaus and simply say, although the amount is distorted, it shows the bend in the right direction. Why? Because of the exposure process. Have you seen the photo of Palmer I am talking about? I'll try to find a still picture and scan it. I've only got it on video. The picture of Palmer shows the club lagging WAY behind. This is sometime between 6/100 and impact. According to your theory, it is bending the WRONG way. It's not just an exaggeration of the bend, but it is actually bending the wrong way. How does this happen? The answer is that the clubhead was exposed a fraction of a second earlier onto the film than the hands. Thus the picture does not represent a single moment in time. I am guessing that similar sort of artifact is seen in the Nicklaus picture. If you turned the camera 180 degrees, you could make his shaft bend the other way.

Cheers,

Jono.
