Sorry about that; my IMA bias coming through
Once we have formed the Keystone Position, Position Number Two, our golfer then twists the upper torso 90 to 100 degrees while lifting with both arms into a powerful Position Number Three, holding for ten seconds.
The left arm performs all of the early Takeaway and the first three quarters of the backstroke while the right arm aids the left in finishing the last quarter of the maximum torque powerfull full windup backswing. Note: This action is performed by direct mental process during the conditioning program of the Bertholy Method, but once our Golfer is a thoroughly and precisely conditioned competitor it is only the left arm that our Golfer needs to think about as he sweeps the club away in a gentle, low, smooth, maximum-width-arc Takeaway. The right arm action becomes automatic from the in-depth conditioning nature of the Bertholy Method.
Make certain that the right arm and the right leg are opposing one another avoiding any right knee collapse and weight shift to the outside of the right foot, keep that body weight on the inside of the right foot and develop an exceptionally strong right leg in this position for stability of the platform. Check to be sure that there is no arch in the spine and that the Golfer's back slopes slightly to his right away from the target. If your head wants to move an inch or two to the right allow it to do so for this back-slope to the right will add considerable power to the golfswing and will also guard against the weak reverse weight shift that so many Golfers engage in at the top of the backswing. Women should cultivate this upper back slope to the right to gurantee more power and to avoid the power robbing reverse weight shift that so many women are plagued by. Caution: Never allow the platform to sway to the right for there must be great stability to the platform during the backstroke. I definitely prefer all of my women students and all of the smaller men pupils to have twice as much weight on the right foot at the top of the backswing as is placed upon the left foot. Of course if our Golfer is over six feet tall and near the 190 pound range, he need not shift as much weight in the backstroke for his gearing factor, from a larger arc and greater muscle structure, will suffice for adequate distance, but the litle people should utilize this power source for the smaller people must get that ball out there if we want to score in the low numbers. Personally, I am only five feet, six inches tall at about 160 lbs., but like Gary Player, I hit it long even for 66 yrs.
