You are doing it right

Response to Trail arm at impact

Actually, Allen, you are doing it, properly, for what you are doing. If you change one little thing, you will be able to come into the ball right hind leg like Scott.

I have met with Scott twice. He claims to reach down, instead of reaching out. So you are reaching down, instead of out. Further, you are returning to that position. In other words, you are doing it right.

When you meet with Scott in person, he shows you how to get into single axis by softening the right arm. You might change the angle (plane) of the shaft at address, when you do this, and your hind leg will be bent, when you come into the ball.

Here is a detail that will help you a lot. I want to explain this by an exaggerated position of what you shouldn't do. At address, you can straighten both arms, and move the elbow of the right arm towards the left arm so that the right arm is pure sunny side up, and the elbow has pressure to the left...towards the left elbow. This is not where you want to be...like an idea of keeping the elbows close to each other at address. Many people try to do this in order to get the elbow in front right away.

The proper way to address the ball, and ensure that you will come in with the hind leg bent, is to allow the tip of the right elbow to point backwards, like down and to the outside of the right hip. If you do this, properly, then the hand will stay behind the shaft all the time, and the elbow will come right back out front on the downswing like it should, with the hind leg bent in the right arm.

A good way to understand this is to take a rag, and wrap it around the grip until it is near the size of a baseball bat handle, and grip up, and you will see an exaggerated position of the hand behind the shaft with the elbow back...and it is natural; not forced position. This position allows the hand to stay behind the handle.

What I am trying to say is that you are doing nothing wrong, based on your set-up at address. You might require a wee bit more of tilt to the right to get that right elbow soft and pointing back to the outside of the right hip. It's like a miracle, once you figure that out...everything just works perfectly, at the stage you are at right now. Your right hand might be too far to the right...not sure.
