the Golden Exercise ( called "Divot Master" in my book ) most everyday now.
Wicker - " If fact, frankly I cannot smack down on that lead tee (pine cone) with both hands on the club at impact! Lead arm only, no problem."
Of course both hands are harder, that is why you do lead arm only first. Re-read what I just quoted you saying. Do you see any problem with your statement? You are talking about "smacking" the pine cone! You are using "hitting language" to describe what you want to do. He spills an lot of ink talking about fighting the "hit impulse" ( Strike Urge ) and it is still in your psyche. The Bertholy action is a retaining and releasing action. Your focus when doing the drills should be on retaining, until eventually the release happens involuntarily....
I guarantee you can "smack" that pine cone without "tug and spin". Right now:
Make your normal backswing, setting Keystone (TakeAway/Set) - the maximum angle between lead arm and club, and use a strong bicep curl. Lets call this the "package". Hold the package intact and make the the Master Move (Vital Move), keeping the package intact with no swinging of the arms at all, slowly drive the trail shoulder down, while pointing the trail elbow to your belly button. Continue transporting the package down with your shoulders until your hands have passed the ball position and continue to drive the shoulders so that your hands "keep working" past the ball. It is hard to describe in words, but you will find that you can only move your body a certain way in order to do this. Watch this video
for an example. I will try and make a better one this weekend if I get the time. Notice how the package gets transported down to and past impact.
