Moe did not have a 'sweeping' swing. Like most pros Moe took a divot most of the time just 'bacon strips' and not 'prok chops'. Also like most pros Moe could take a divot or not as he chose for the shot he wanted to hit.
I have a SA setup and find no problems with square face clubs with no offset. In fact I find offset to be uncomfortable at setup. All of my clubs including driver are square. A hook face driver or open face driver will produce a hook or a fade unless I compensate. A proper SA swing will return the club at impact to the same orientation it had at address. If you need a hook faced club to hit a straight shot with a SA swing there is likely something off with your swing.
