I was talking with my sister one time about a new venture...I was with a great company, solid product, no way people could refuse it...best available..priced right..yada yada. I'm going on and on about how excited I was she finally stops me.
"Kev, hold on. I love your hamburgers and really miss em. Do you think you make a better hamburger than McDonald's?" What? Uh... DUH...you know I do! "I do too, but let me ask you...can you sell a billion of em? It's about the marketing Kev, so how's this company's marketing?" I got her point.
Kid Rock, on the back cover of his "Rock N Roll Jesus" cd writes:
"If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right you'll buy it. BUT...If it's REAL you'll feel it. "
There is a lot of slick stuff out there in the golf instruction world these days. It looks real good. Sounds good too. A ton of it is bought thanks to the marketing...but it's not REAL. It "doesn't work"...it produces no lasting change.
In golf it's only real if you strike it better, play better, shoot lower scores. And when that happens, you know it's real.
