Former Texas quarterback Vince Young said Sunday he is still in shock in the wake of the death of Steve McNair.
Young referred to McNair as Pops from the special relationship they developed over the years.
Im still in shock since hearing the news, Young said in a statement. I spent all (Saturday) afternoon and night thinking about my life on and off the field with Pops.
McNair met Young while conducting one of his summer football camps. Young stayed in contact with McNair while playing in college.
McNair was among Youngs inner-circle when it came time to decide whether to stay with the Longhorns for his senior season or leave early for the NFL after the 2005 season.
Since I was a teenager, he was like a father to me. I hear his advice in my head with everything I do. Life will be very different without him.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mechelle, the kids and the entire McNair family during this horrible time.
Young had hoped to play alongside McNair in the NFL. Tennessee drafted Young with the third overall pick in 2006, but the Titans traded McNair to the Baltimore Ravens.
