Response to putting things into your own words...

Hi Sandi,

The most simplest way to convert tips and strategies into your own words is to imagine you are writing to a friend and discussing the ideas you wish to present in your booklet.

You know this person, so you would write it in a personal, friendly, comunicative manner. You would take a simple but informative approach, and maybe spice certain points with some personal experiences.

That’s the approach I took when I wrote my ebook, ‘The Enterprising Writer’.

I had a lot of important information to impart and I wanted to do it in the most meaningful way. And the best way I know to relate to the reader is through personal experience. So, you’ll find that my book is littered with relevant personal experiences. Apart from enticing the reader, they reinforce points I am trying to make.

So, in a nutshell, if you want to personalize your writing, here’s what you can do:

1. Think about your audience ~ who is your typical reader? Write to their level of technical understanding.
2. ‘Translate’ the material into your own language to best suit your ‘friend’.
3. Add meaning and interest, by including your own take and/or personal experiences relating to certain topics.

When you take this approach, you will truly ‘own’ the work through your own language, you will empower the message through your personal experiences and you will communicate most effectively with your reader.

And, funnily enough with this approach, you'll find that the writing comes easier and faster.

Good luck with your booklet!

Warmest regards
Michael
