Mr Bedard is responsible for making a lasting impression on me and a host of others regarding patriotism.
Each morning in the 7th & 8th grades, weather permitting, we would march outside to witness the raising of the flag and the playing of nation anthem.
We were told to remain still until the Stars Spangled Banner was finished. Mr Bedard further emphasized this by telling us to remain still even if a bee was stinging us. We could swat it after the anthem was finished, but not before.
This has made a lasting impression on me. I still get tears in my eyes when I'm somewhere the national anthem is being played.
Maybe it is because I can still feel the bee's sting and there's nothing I can do about it. Oh, I forgot to mention that we were all deathly afraid of Mr Bedard's paddle and the boiler room where it's justice was administered. |
