Before I checked the syllabus I mistakenly started reading "On Liberty",and it reminded me a lot of John Dewey. Both John Stuart Mill and John Dewey talk about the importance of experiences in learning. "Nobody denies that people should be so taught and trained in youth, as to know and benefit by the ascertained results of human experience." He also talks about experiences that hurt someone's overall intelligence and well-being, just as Dewey talks about "miseducative" experiences. "If the grounds of an opinion are not conclusive to the person's own reason, his reason...is likely to be weakened, by his adopting it."
Anyway, just thought I'd like to share my insightful screw-up.
